So, as title says, I'm trying to retrieve the book from the monastery in Ireland for the Danish guy. Abbot tells me that he'll give it to me if I pay him, but that I'll incur the wrath of the Ui Neill. Is there anyway to talk to the Ui Neill about it, or do I just have to buy it and deal with the negative relations?

I do not know, but the Abbot just gave it to me and told them it was stolen.

Well your other options are pillage the monastery or pay the guy in Ribe 10,000.

IIRC, if you have a high enough persuasion skill you are given the option to convince him to give it to you to save lives, with no reputation repercussions. Otherwise it's give it to me or I kill people (they hate you) or straight up pillaging.

One thing I noticed by accident is a random monastery I pillaged along the way gave me the quest item as loot.
