People would not be satisfied with only multiplayer of this game. This is my take away from the beta experience. Say what you want about the game, seems obvious to me it's formatted with the intent to make it available across multiple platforms, exposing it to as many sales as possible.

If that's the case, then Taleworld's should capitalize on the fact that people will ultimately get frustrated if they can only experience the game thru a limited multiplayer client. Make Multiplayer free of course. Put a lot of limitations on customization, and access to classes, on the free client... and reel them in. People who would never pay for a $50 game now are trojan horsed into buying the game because they got hooked on the free client. Also this seeds the bannerlord servers with lots of fresh meat. Wish I could take credit for this idea... but it's become a standard practice for AAA titles

I see the point as it's a very niche genre. None of my personal friends are interested in Mount & Blade as it's not a quick-paced normie game.
It'd be fun to be able to play with them though, and might as you say reel them in to buy the full experience, rather than fully avoiding it.
However, it's more secure for TW to earn more money off fewer (current) customers than less money from more (potential) customers.
Another worry would be piracy if everything can be accessible for free. Talking about cheaters, the solution would be like CS:GO.
Paying customers can choose to match with paying customers or free players, as well as it being TW:s responsibility to have good anti-cheat.

The reason CSGO did it is because they wanted people to get into the skin market. This is not the same at all.

The micro-management of custom servers remains to be something we have seen in detail... perhaps its premature to make suggestions on how this will function, but based on the way warband works, servers will be micro-managed by their administrators, and of course TW is bound to have some form of anti-cheat script. The benefits of more players and ability to share the experience with your friends as you say, far outweighs the potential consequences of having to deal with more cheaters, by a long shot.

All decisions made in a business strategy are inherently tied to risk. The free client option seems to be a calculated risk that more and more AAA developers are choosing to make... but from my perspective, if that gamble is going to have a high pay off, it's going to have to be something that exists at the point of maximum exposure for the game, once the hype dies down it won't really make much of a difference.

I can think of two people in the past who were banned from the forums for toxic behavior, banned from most Warband servers for cheating, started their own servers so they could cheat without fear of being banned.

Not gonna lie I thought this was a troll thread.

Not gonna lie, it isn't something ive spent a single second thinking about, or care to discuss

Won't you make a poll "Should singleplayer be free?"
