I'm having real problems with this...

Basically, I get up to the stage where you click "UV mapping", but instead of taking me to the window where you can segment it, it takes me immediately to the screen with the letterish background. I've been trying various methods for 3 hours to no avail. Can someone help me?

You have tried to UV map it before, haven't you? Delete everything related to UV mapping, and then it should work. If it doesn't, try getting my version of Wings. If it doesn't work again... I don't know.

Hmm always loving your work on these forums ^^.
So can this be used to retexture existing models in Mount and blade?
And is there a way to play with bump mapping using this program .

A reply would be much appreciated.

Yes, you can retexture with this. Just grab the M&B model and use this technique to re-texture it.
AFAIK bump maps are done with Photoshop or something like this. CDVader had a good tutorial about bump (or normal) maps, but where is it...?

can anyone tell me how to create the .dds files please :?:
i will be  if someone tells me

There are 3 ways to make them.

Paint.Net allows you to create and modify .dds files without the need for installing anything. It is a free and open source application.
It can be found <a href="http://www.getpaint.net/">here.</a>

Gimp is another free application that can do this but it requires the nvidia plugin which can be found <a href="http://www.gimp.org/">here</a> and the nvidia plugin can be downloaded <a href="http://developer.nvidia.com/legacy-texture-tools">here</a>

Lastly you can use Photoshop (the links to which I sadly cannot post ) and also install the .DDS file plugin from Nvidia.

There now you can edit .dds files just like any other graphic file.

I'm sorry? I don't quite understand your question.
You can use OpenBRF for all of your modelling needs: to add items to the game or to get items from the game. Check it out in the Unofficial Tools section.
