are there some video tutorials on how to texture? but not just texture a little but texture properly...like really well...and i think there are different ways on how you can texture if that would be included too...and if it doesn't exist can someone make one?

seen that doesnt help me much...one of the things i'd like to know is for example i have a texture, a text box and the template i need the texture to cover the template in gimp...and i have no clue how to get the text box in gimp (copy paste didn't do anything) oh and i need the template and the text boxes at the same time so that i can position the text box properly

You just use the text tool and write down whatever you want...
I don't really know, I hate GIMP, I prefer photoshop...

edit: I tried, and i can copy/paste into a text box...
i dont understand your problem

Not something you should be saying here, I would edit out that spoiler...

If you are talking about the UV mapping (defining how the texture appears on the object) you can see info on that and a free tool that does it in the last section of the updated tutorial (see my sig)

As to making the texture files, you need software that will edit/save DDS files.  There is a plugin for photoshop that does it, and there may be other software packages out there that can do it to.

I hacked it, so i don't have to pay
... wonder if im breaking this forums laws by saying that...

ok i think my explanation is bad...

ok i have the template a texture and a text box. I have the texture and the template in gimp and the text box in word...now i want the text box from word in gimp however copy paste doesn't work. In addition i also can't make the text box to a picture and add it that way because then it would just cover the texture. I also can't put the texture and the text box together previously because i have to position the text box properly so that it fits with the template.

so far i used a dds-jpeg converter...when i finished the texture in gimp i saved it as jpeg and when i had to add it i converted it

see the lines on the blade? i want to do something similar but don't know how (so far i always just got finished textures from the net and added some shadows...thats not how he did it right? if its that simple i'll kill myself since ive been thinking about this for 2 hours or more

oh...  You can use screen capture.  Ctrl-PrtScr will copy the current window to the clip board.  Then paste it (Ctrl-V) as a layer into your graphic program.  Then select the white area and delete it.  That's the easiest way to explain it.

You mean you just want to add text onto the texture? That should be very simple, just use the type tool then paste your text in from word. Then if you want to match the curvatures of your mesh you can use various warp features to bend and shape it (personally I'd prefer to manipulate text in Adobe Illustrator and import it into PS).

Also, if you're thinking of just pasting an image of the text you can set the text layer to multiply (so you don't have to delete the white). However this is still an "unelegant" way of doing it plus your text will be darkened and you won't be able to edit it much.

You don't need a texturing tutorial, you just need to know the basics of using PS/GIMP. Once you're familiar with how all the tools, layers, filters, etc work everything else will fall into place. For starters you can first try to understand layer blend modes first: http://cgtextures.com/content.php?action=tutorial&name=blendmodes

Afterwards, try looking for tutorials for using tools specifically. Don't bother looking for tuts on texturing yet. Try to find out what you can do with the various tools you have and see some working examples. Later you will know how to put it all together and when you watch highelf's video tutorial again you'll realise how easy it really is and how you can do a lot more than what basics he laid down in that tutorial.

sadly its just a texture rip, not really edited at all  as you can see here> http://www.aceros-de-hispania.com/swords-knives/aragorn-knife.asp

edit: dont kill yourself though, just realize things are usually easier than they seem.

do you have any concept art or something that you can show us your are trying to work towards?.

yea i have one as a an example
weapon-pike.jpg

see the scribbling on the shaft?

DualBladeSword.jpg

and here the runes on the blade?

i want to put runes and scribblings on swords and spears but i don't want to use brushes all the time...i thought i could do it with text boxes (i downloaded runes as a font) but that didn't work...and also don't want to make it myself (tried that looks retarded)

Can we see your texture map attempt using those text (with the UVmap guides visible as well of course)?
edit: to make it more clearer I mean your texture map laid flat, not the texture already wrapped around your model.

you can use something like this for the spear http://jrodriguez-odonnell.com/images/celtic_border2.gif, you can find things like this anywhere on google
,for the sword I don't why a rune font wouldn't work, but for the decoration near the crossguard I would recommend using something similar to the celtic border I linked but this time angle it 45degrees and then mirror and overlap it until you get a Rorschach effect.

edit: you might want to bevel the runes to get some fake lighting in there, or possibly put them only on the specular layer so they are only visible at certain angles.
^ and as amade says it would be helpful to see your attempts
