Alright, I've been trying to think of a new program to write lately. I like making games, but I just haven't been able to think of anything lately. Then I thought "maybe I could make something that would allow others who don't know how to program, to make games."
So I got to thinking: I like games that find ways to work without using anything even remotely close to good graphics, and I don't want to try making it too complicated, at least not at first. So why not the old standby, text-based games?
I've been thinking of what is needed to make the program work, and so far I've come up with: rooms, rooms that they lead to, items, events, and people (still thinking about how to make them work, but it would basically work the same way they do in M&B).
I would probably write two programs: the tool to create the files needed for the game, and the application that runs the files to actually run the game.
The creation program would prompt you to input all your data, then you would save the files, and they would be distributed to the people who would play it, having downloaded the second program. The playerside program would allow the user to only have one application, which would choose from a number of folders, each being a different game created by...you guys.
I can go into more detail about how everything would work, if people show some interest in using the program. What I would also like to see, is whether other programmers, or pseudo-programmers, would also like to have input on the creation of the program, so we could possibly have a community-wide project going here. What do you all think?
