Some of you may recently have noticed a new 90 slot siege server called "Tercios_GST_Server". It's competing with servers like GK, Wolfpack, and others, by taking advantage of work other people have already spent years creating and perfecting . Normally, competition is a great thing. It inspires mappers and modders to make fresh, unique, and entertaining content for their servers so people will want to come back. But there is a major problem when one server decides to exploit the work of others without permission --  it removes any incentive to make that content at all.

Here are some screenshots of maps you might recognize from GK mappers running on the Tercios GST server:

These, and other maps were also edited and renamed "scn_GST_[number]" to remove any trace to the original mapper. There are more screenshots of our maps as well, as a very large number of them seem to have been put on their rotation. All of this took place without any kind of permission being sought, or credit being attributed. We tried to communicate directly with the hosts of this server... At first, we were told they would remove them and that they were willing to cooperate with us. After seeing their maps were not removed 4 days later, we contacted them again and got a response more along the lines of "there is no way you can prove they're yours, so they're ours now". IMO this kind of attitude is poisonous to a community that values user-generated content of any kind.

So I'm posting for 2 reasons...

1. I am looking for advice on who to contact and what can be done by Taleworlds about this server being listed. I've seen threads mentioning "cracked" servers before that admins responded to immediately, so I don't know if this thread will be enough to get someone's attention, or if I should be sending emails/Pms to someone specific.

2. Looking for support from players who know that these maps are NOT the original content of Tercios_GST_Server, and are used without permission. I'm hoping if anyone else feels strongly about this, they will speak up. The more people who are serious about this, the better chance there is of this VERY bad precedent being reversed before its too late.

Ps. I dont want to make it sound like they just stole a few maps... probably a significant majority of "their" maps are ours, made for our exclusive use, after they were asked explicitly not to use them.

"GST Technology" seems to be quite prone to SCRIPT ERRORS i see  Unless the server is not a cracked one i don't think there's anything they can do except stop playing on them and mock them with digital pitchforks. Do they have a website or clan forum or something ?

Try PM'ing an admin about this.

Not quite suprised really. Was just a matter of time before someone decided to so something like this to you guys, with the success you've had. I don't see much being done unless it's a cracked server though.

Added note: their forums are on the screenshot.

Edit: If you are going to contact them you should open a new thread in "Cartas de sugerencias" or "Embajada".
I'm Spanish like them so if you need any help for communication matter feel free to send me a PM

I just want to say as a mapper,  this has been utterly discouraging.  I have put over 1500 hours into M&B mapping alone (another 2000 hours playtime).  I have designed over 50 maps myself,  and GK has about 10 dedicated mappers who combined have produced over 150 maps.  I have also created native compatible mods,  such as the Native Armory Expansion,  and I have worked hand in hand with DWARF in getting the Neonative mod ready for online use which will add catapults,  ballistas and steerable ships to the game.

All that is for nothing if someone can just come along,  yank the script out from under our feet and rename it and use it as they see fit.  It's as if Vincenzo would have spent all that time making Mount & Musket,  and along I come and just copy the entire code into my own module,  name it Colonial Wars and put up a server contending with his.  It's outright villainous and evil and in Vincenzos case having now made money off his work,  THEFT.  But money does not need to be involved for it to be a theft,  I feel violated right now.  Utterly violated.

I would like to mention that I did reach out to the owners of this server,  and while one of the three leaders was willing to help the other two simply laughed and mocked me (one even referring to me as "boy" in the very first sentence we began talking).  I was told I have no rights towards my 1500 hours of mapping.

If you cherish custom content and modifications in this game,  I ask you to stand with us on this issue and give your outcry towards this blatant theft.  If modders cannot be protected against this sort of thing,  there is very little incentive to mod.  As it stands,  I have 0 desire to continue mapping or modding for this game,  and will not mod either for Bannerlord unless I see some action taken.  Is that the future you want?  How many more mappers and modders will feel the same?  I can name more right now than fingers on my hands that will probably never map/mod again if this is not dealt with harshly.  So please join us,  and stop this sort of travesty.  One of the key strengths of an open source code like M&B is the modding community,  don't let it violated.

If you want to help:

~Post your disgust with this sort of blatant theft

~Do not frequent the server Tercio_GST_Siege

~Visit US_GK_Siege and enjoy our hard work in it's rightful context using the GK Bundle mod which adds weather,  weapons and more to the native game.

Thank you.

That's from cRPG banners and not their scripting.

There's nothing you can do though unless it's a private server.

Well i can only give you my support, since i sadly don't see a way to stop them.

I know map making is time consuming, especially when making big maps Sieges need,so i understand your disappointment.

Other then that i would really like to see one of my maps on GK Siege,so if you guys are interested contact me on steam and i will show it to you

Added.

UPDATE:  It seems that 2 of the 3 leaders of Tercio are reasonable guys.  They have agreed to host a server this weekend to allow us to go through their maps and point out which are ours and remove them.  This is a great breakthrough in human decency.    As a result,  I think we will not need to take any action.  But that is yet to be seen.  I hope this can be resolved through diplomacy as it seems to be.  Thanks for all the support this far,  and please do not take this as a "stand down".  This is merely a suspension of action.

Well, that's good. I'll be checking this thread how things develop.

I'm not much of a mapper, But I've made a few in the past. It's horrible to have put your heart and soul and time into a piece of art and have it yanked away. This game is full of tonnes of content that has been made by dedicated players who love the game; adding great work to a great game. That a few people come along and take that work for their own with no regards to the original maker is rather disgusting and disheartening.

It goes without saying that I support not only GK mapper/modders, But I really appreciate all the mappers and modders out there for Warband and beyond.

No matter how they got these "terrain codes"...  However I just talked with a mapmaker and he said they don't have his permission to use his maps...
But I saw these maps on the server...
Ban them!

Yeah... that's the whole point. Thanks for the status report.

Even with the .sco's I don't see how they're getting the proper terrain codes?

Terrain codes are saved in the very same folder they got .sco's from.

Terrain codes are written into the scenes.txt when a module is built.  They can be added afterward but can be pretty messy.  Load a .sco with the incorrect terrain code and you have a mess.

I'm honestly just curious here how they could acquire the terrain codes just by downloading the map.  It wouldn't overwrite their scenes.txt files as it's pulling from the server.

As stated by Alene earlier when you download a map it stores the .sco file and also creates a small text file for storing the terrain code. Copying that into the scenes.txt is trivial.

Theft of original content is unfortunately commonplace on the internet. It's pathetic. A little credit goes a long way.

Theft is the greatest honor. Or something, i just woke up. I mean, if someone uses your maps shouldnt you just feel honored? I don't really see much of a problem, unless US_GK_Siege see tercio as a competitor even though it is located in europe... with european pings. A problem i can agree on is that they rename the map files which isnt entirely honorable :S
