technical troop problem with .584

I'm having a problem with the troop tree in .584.  I'm unable to upgrade my arbans.  The splash screen for Native Expansion shows that I'm using version .580, and when when I examine my troops.txt it shows all the new units in .584, but I don't seem to have access to them in-game.  I don't understand at all.  Also, no macemen, and crusaders upgrade to master crusaders.  But there's only one troops.txt in the Native Expansion directory.  Any ideas?

Troop changes are not savegame compatible.
You may want to start a new game.

It still uses the old one. There is no new splash screen.

Yeah, Merc should clarify that on the patch download screen, that the thing will still read .580

Also, clarify that the texture pack is a modding resource and is unnecessary

Also, remove the Custom Kingdom Name Tutorial Image on feature 15.

Changing those three would save a lot of confusion.

Well, I upgraded from .574 to .584, so I certainly would expect a new splash screen.  I didn't install the texture packs, so that's not an issue.  Following the suggestion to reinstall, I deleted all my saved games, then I removed the native expansion folder entirely, emptied the recycle bin, and restarted the computer, just to make sure I had an absolutely clean start.  So I reinstall .550, add the .584 files, then the siege add-on.  I run the trooptreegenerator, new troops check out, and now I just restarted another game.  So I'm running around, trying to get money and troops etc, and I don't see any of the new troops.  I do see about 86 marksmen in a Vaegir town, which tells me they're not upgrading.  Is there any way to confirm this without waiting to see if I can upgrade my troops past mid-tier?

I'm not sure right now, but had .574 the revamped troop trees already? With the special buildings and so on?
If not, then you might miss something about that

One other possibilty:  I'm using the 'alt' link to download .584.  Is there any possibility that that link is still associated with .582?

No. And even if it did, why don't you try the other one?
And please tell me, had .574 the the elite units still available as normal upgrades?

I have problems with the other download link, and since the alternate link worked, I never bothered to investigate.

Yeah, in .574, you had to have a special building in a town to get the elite units.  In the past, were they available as a normal upgrade?

But seriously. Are there no elite troops whatsoever on the whole map? Even in the garrisons of Sargoth or Praven? And what about the faction leaders' parties?

It appears that I'm playing .574.  The splash screen says .580, but none of the units mentioned in the forums are in the game.  I just deleted and reinstalled for the second time, and still nothing.  Next step is to uninstall M&B and try the whole thing over from scratch.  I shouldn't care this much, but since I've already spent so much time trying to get it to work, I'm not about to stop.

To answer your question more specifically, yes, the elite units are there, but not the expanded Khergit units or the expanded Swadian elites.

td_klondike: Check to see if you're extracting it to the right spot.

That's what I did. So I don't see why it doesn't work for you.

Right. And since it says .580 at least some of the files are already there.

Well, it looks like the mystery ends here.  It turns out the rarely used DVD drive on my laptop has ceased to work entirely, so now that I've uninstalled M&B I can no longer reinstall it
