Technical Question About Memory Usage

I'm finding that I have an almost unplayable amount of lag on the world map as of this latest patch.  I alt+tabbed to the desktop for some reason or another, and I found that my Vista CPU gadget showed my CPU lollygagging along with energy to spare, but my RAM was pegged at 66%.

I think this is significant; I'm running this on an Asus G series laptop with a core 2 duo processor, vista 32, and 3 Gb RAM.  It seems obvious that only 2 Gb are being used by my entire system.  Now, computers aren't my career, so I only know tidbits and trivia; I'm one of the many that got a glossy, far away look in his eyes when he read the directions for the custom surcoats.  What I'm really wondering is if I need to contact Asus to figure out why only 2 Gb are being used, or if I need to take it up with Taleworlds.

Some of the memory is reserved for the system, 768mb I believe.  The problem is with the game, it's not optimized for this kind of punishment.  It is best to bug TW about it and see if they do something to improve it, in the mean time I will attempt a few things.

- reduce bandit numbers and instead provide a few static points where you will be able to find something to find ala Balt tribes
- modify the triggers that process faction relations, all factions are processed at the same time, I'll try to change it so that 1 faction/game hour is processed
- travel speed tweaks unfortunately are CPU heavy which is quite annoying

That said, it'd be best for TW to do something about it, I already made a post in the 1.122 release thread and hopefully something will be done.  Of course, the more people bug them the more likely they are to do something :razz:

EDIT: Actually never mind that 1.123 is out and hopefully the performance is improved.
 
Yeah, I know about how Vista needs its space, so to speak.  I tested on another game, and my computer is perfectly capable of going above 66%.  What I find peculiar is that Warband specifically does not use more than 66% on my computer.  I mean, out of that 768 Mb that you mentioned, surely SOME of that is being used by windows, right?  Which means that my computer should use 100% - 768 Mb + Whatever Windows is Using.  No matter how you do the math, that's more than 66%.  EXACTLY 2 gigs on my system.

I've already posted this on the Warband tech forum, I'll update that and hopefully we'll see something done.  I would be interested to know if other people are also limited in this respect.

I don't necessarily agree that you need to adjust the mod just yet.  Let's first find out if my problem is unique, and if it isn't, let's find out if Taleworlds has a fix down the road.  It'd be a shame to undo good work if it isn't necessary.  You might also need to post minimum specs on the faq, who knows?  It's certainly more demanding than native, but not that much.  I'll see what I can get taleworlds to say about it.
 
Same issue. I can play 0.94 and any other mod just fine, but the newest version has constant shuttering. I have tried again with the new patch but it makes no difference.

Perhaps the giant, revolting peasant armies ( kåtkarle led by a few well-armed sergeants ) in Denmark I suggested a while ago could be one of these.
