Tech support please :( Screen has gone green and slow

All of a sudden the screen goes green for about a minute then crash and restart without image:

Set up my old monitor - run safe mode - and am able to get... something:

I've restored to an earlier point (or whatever that function is called) but to no use.

My screen now looks like this

Run antivirus: didn't find anything.

I'm guesssing it could be a graphics card problem and will try to insert a new one (some time tomorrow)
Any other good ideas - please

I had a similar problem once when I spilled **** on my computer. Got a new video card and it fixed the problem. Do you have like any old cards you can plug in to test it?

Yeah that looks like a game from 1974 

I don't have another grapics card but I'll just get a cheap one and insert to see if it helps.

I doubt any virus/software could do that to both graphical and console interfaces.

Well, if you are not looting some computer for a GPU, then ATI got som nice cheap cards(so cheap + upgrade ). Not linking since currency translation is a pain, along with stores and all that.

Yeah, it's definitely a hardware issue. It works in safe mode - but slow and with purple and green lines all over.
Turning down harware acceleration helps, but the green/purple lines are still there.
In 'normal' startup the screen just freezes.

So not much use for porn then: purple/green striped women without sound in safe mode


I'm just going to get a new decent graphics card and hope for the best...

Reminds me of those old Apple games. On topic: It may be your monitor. My dad's monitor went all funky on him awhile back, and it had a similar look.

I'm now using my old CRT monitor (forgot how good those are  ) and it's the same issue.

The 'new' nvidia cards GTS & GTX 250 - 275 have reached a comfortable price range. Might take a look at one of those.

Don't think so. He said the system crashed and restarted. No monitor failure, AFAIK, can have any impact on the execution of any computer process

Nvidia gets the job done and is pretty much universally compatible.

Wasn't necessarily the driver. I did have a somewhat poor nvidia driver once but that's nothing compared to what I hear from many ATI users.
