TDM - Crowd Management.

Hey guys.
So I've recently been playing a lot of tdm over on HGN's server, and I've discovered I'm pretty good at what I call "crowd management".

Basically the idea is to manipulate the mob in your favour and it can be split into three parts.

1. Your team's outnumbered
When your team is outnumbered in the mob, you're gonna be on the defensive a bit. In this case, get someone to go after you by attacking them (carefully) and start dodging around but focusing on that guy. Pretty soon he'll be targeting you and you get your chance to change the tide of battle. Slowly move him towards his allies and then do a quick move to put his allies in between you. Them sit back and watch the ff.

2. When your team outnumbers the enemy
Now in this case, crowd management is all about making sure your not tked. NEVER ASSUME YOUR ALLIES WON'T KILL YOU. They will. So the idea here is to hang back a bit at the start and see how the mob forms up. Look for a place in your teammates you can go in and out of easily, and do just that. Move forwards and backwards using thrusts and stabs. Moving to the side will get you tked. Your better off just going I. And out in a not too crowded area.

3. Evenly numbered mobs
Now here start out as if you have more players, moving in and out a less crowded spot. Then once the crowd dwindles down, use the force teamkilling tactics to give your side the edge.

That's applicable to any team mode.

Specifically for TDM (or CTF, since they both have respawning, team-based combat) you should focus on engaging highest threat targets of opportunity. If you see an infantryman with his back to you and an archer looking right at you, don't bother with the infantryman unless he's between you and the archer. If he is, cut him up but if you don't kill him in the first few blows make sure you keep advancing towards the archer. Archers in TDM turn group melees around, so you want to help A) yourself, by killing the archer to ensure he doesn't shoot you, and B) your teammates, because a respawning archer doesn't shoot anyone else. If you can at least force the archer to pull his melee weapon out, you'll be buying your team time to come help you.

If Im facing a mob of enemies in multi, i tend to rush in front because Im quite good at blocking and am the most likely to hold them off for a while, whilst teammates deal with them piecemeal from a position slightly behind me.

Of course, you'll probably be able to take down at least one person if you come in swinging, and probably more if you take care to backpedal and avoid most of their hits - The best option, however, when facing any large groups of enemies, is to just come in from behind and start chopping: You'll probably be able to take at least a couple down before they notice you.

My idea is to survive both their hits and your teammates the whole time.

Teammates should know better than to hit me in the back...
Besides, Im usually the lone victor or dead by the time teammates come to help me, so i dont tend to encounter this problem too often...

Cleary you don’t play TDM

I never really have an issue with melee FF anymore. Most people have gotten the hang of it and know when to swing and when not to. The most often way to die from melee FF is when you and an ally both swing at someone from opposite sides, you kill the enemy, and then the allies attack swings through the corpse and into you.

I usually deal with mobs by running in and just going to town. It throws people off when one guy with a spear starts charging at 6 guys with great axes, and I'm in my element when fighting multiple enemies. Someone is bound to open up to attack way to early or something, and which point I can usually take them down. I think I'm actually better at fighting 3 enemies than I am 1 for just this reason. Unless all 3 enemies are experts or something.

I dont, I usually play seige, which is the same situation just more crowded and with less room to maneuver in.
