Taxes. What the hell, guys?

Whenever anyone turns in a trade good a silver coin pops up on the other side of the counter. You want a cut? Sit someone's ass at that counter and have them collect the coins. Bingo! You get income and you can stop being a pain in the ass about 'taxes'.

Secondly, how the hell do you expect anyone to pay taxes? We've got four slots. One has to carry a book. So now we've got three slots. Since half of the income from each trade good apparently goes to the castle automatically, that's a potential income of 15k. Except you've got to carry a coin in order to pay 'taxes'. So now we're down to 10k per run. At that point I'd rather just join the freaking bandits, or become a serf and find an unattended castle. Or, frankly, blow through your lame ass tarif collection point and keep all my cash.

In short Taxes are stupid and annoying, please go harass one of the other kingdoms.

In my opinion the current economy system is quite silly.
Although taxes should be used for some sense of realism the overall system desperately needs to change since you can go serf for 10m, then switch class and buy yourself top-shelf armour and weapons. Completely unrealistic since mercenaries or the common professional soldier could barely afford his weapons and some half-decent armour, not full plate, full plate armoured horse + masterwork weapons.

Id personally sugest taking out the mining part completely and upping the costs of armour to make merchants more realistic (and useful) and weaponry of the "adventurers" we see ingame. Perhaps iron bars could still be used for merchant trade or something but the current state is very gamey.
With a bit of an increase for merchant trade income the castles would still recieve taxes and support their forces without extorting miners.
Oh, and plate and other top armours should cost so much that it seems absurd, so much that they could only be bought buy rulers of factions and perhaps very skillful or lucky people.

If not for the taxes, every PW game would start with every player gold farming for long, long time so that they can get their equipment. With the taxes, kingdoms and other factions can now actually earn gold the normal (Like it was IRL) way.

Pay taxes or die, civilian. If you don't like it, join a kingdom. As a serf you won't need to pay taxes anymore.

I've only seen rp'ed taxes on serfs, and since the bank books are right by the stockpile in 2/3 castles, you can drop off your iron and then pay the taxes. Trader taxes are already taken care of with the silver coin.

There should be more of a limit on taxes, like 5k on stuff is a little High. Plus you can just Ctrl+G all but 1 of your item sell it pick up another sell it and you get like 5k per item if you have 5k taxes lol

Trading already gives income. Further taxation is stupid, agreed.

Problem is there are a lot more serfs than merchants. As a merchant you can only earn 3x5000 denars per turn despite the labels telling you that you will get 10k per the traded item. On the other hand serfs can earn 40k in one turn. I think it's quite a bit disproportionate and selling iron should be taxed as well the very least.

Also in v3 money seems to be overly abundant, there are a lot more folks wearing top armour since the new version.

I'll agree with that. The economy is of course the hardest thing to balance about the map, but Laszlo will get to work on it as soon as possible. Never fear ;]

I beleive that people DO tax serfs, or at least i always get my faction to try to. If serfs refuse to pay tax, they die. Simple as. Just make sure you tell them when they enter your keep that they must pay a tax after collecting there 40k or they will die.

If they die after they collect their 40k, all you've done is saved them 2 clicks. What you should do is tax them after they collect the first 10k, then let them turn in the rest.

I thought you could just go to one of the coins (not sure whether it's withdraw or deposit, but it's -2000 gold), and you lose 2000 denars and the "bank" gains it. I could be completely wrong...

In any case, with a steady tax income the need to mine before you regroup for another attack is eliminated. I was with a group of bandits in Red and we could ride out fully equipped every time because of the cash in the coffers - we had a designated Purchaser who organised equipment. It was badass. The only time they become a problem is when they're disproportionately high, whereupon you:

1. snub that kingdom completely
2. sneak in, easier with green castle
3. buy a decent horse and run once you've got your cash
3. join that kingdom or another one
4. join bandits and rape and pillage
5. etc. It's roleplay. You have to deal with annoying tax monsters in creative ways. It's awesome.

You could always station the tax collector at the coin table to collect the coins when they spawn, so traders don't have to pick them up.

So you guys really like harassing people who can't fight back, huh?

Gee, and here I thought the whole appeal of being part of a faction was going to war with other factions. Guess I totally missed the point. Just went right over my head. I guess I'll start bullying people who can't fight back next time I load the server.

Actually its just amuzing how people have sumthin against taxes as im always making it "cheaper"
2k for anyone that wants to deposit bar
2k for anyone that wants to trade ((MEans he doesnt pay 5k per good and at all gets 13k more))

The more people come to my castle do defend it the higher get the taxes as im then even getting people to defend out trading" route", i never got over a tax of 5k for everything they want to deliever and I think thats the fairest deal I can offer somoene..

Merchants get 5k per item while a 2k worth silver coin is generated on the desk when selling an item. 3k just disappears or something.
