I think I got a virus or somesuch, because for some reason, I suddenly can't open the taskmanager, and my computer is laggy as a *****.

It says the admin turned off taskmanager, but I think that if I could open taskmanager, I could kill the process and be happy.

So, how do I allow myself to open the taskmanager? I already have admin status.

Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem about a year ago, it's a virus (or something like it), I used Panda antivirus to remove it

Yeh, tried rebooting. Will try panda.

EDIT: Oh. Panda isn't free. Crap. Will try and see if AVG can get the ****er.

Try system recovery, that should work.

Start/All Programs/Bureau Accessoires/System Tools/System Recovery

(Or whatever it's called in English)

Just run it, pick a date where you didn't have the virus. It worked for me. Also, I edited my previous post.

Thanks, I'll try that.

Does it make my computer exactly like it was x number of days ago?

And how long does it take?

I believe (don't quote me though) it reverts to the old registry files and such. I don't think to will delete files you've just downloaded, etc. And it only takes a minute or two. I would recommend doing it, it is very easy and will probably fix your problem.

No, usually the best Anti Virus programs are the free ones, seeing as they're made by people who hate viruses, rather than money grabbing men in suits.

Kudos to Hidro for the info.

I always thought it puts everything back as it used to be a few days ago, as you'll lose gamesaves etc that date from after the recovery date..

No, it just copies over the current registry hives with the backups, replaces the win.ini or boot.ini with win/boot.old and whistles a merry tune.

That's very generous of you, good sir, but I think I'll pass.

So, I guess I'll lock this, since it's fulfilled it's purpose.
