TaleWorlds News: New News Necessary for the OT Neophytes

Users who are viewing this thread

Hopefully twitter dies soon and this kind of **** gets less attention. But I'm guessing it would just move to some new, equally trash social media site.

The problem with twitter is that it's an amalgam of increasingly lazy "serious" journalism, and lunatics from tumblr and 4chan. I'm pretty sure you've seen all those stupid news articles that just quote from twitter posts with minimal editorial input. I think Twitter has a reputation among some journalists for being a neutral public forum, which is reinforced by politicians giving official statements and press releases directly on twitter, but it's also a place where a guy with an anime avatar will call you names for saying pedophilia is bad. And there isn't exactly a good boundary between the journalism and the insane asylum, so the stupidest stuff imaginable gets loads of attention.

A different kind of social media website might attract different kinds of people and have a different atmosphere. Think about what comes to mind when you hear the word "redditor" or "facebook user", despite neither website actively selecting for those kinds of people. I think separating out the journalism, business and politics from the social media part would be a good start.

I agree that any engineering knowledge that Musk has is self-taught, but all evidence suggests that he is extremely intelligent, even though he can also be a jerk at times.
Here's more fun with Elon pretending to be an engineer. When talking to a real one, he just can't.

Full disclosure: I was just permabanned from r/elonmusk for complaining about their censorship bot that auto-bans you for potentially abusive words. My last comment there was not offensive, it just contained the word "fanboy", not directed at any user. Reddit moderators can do whatever they want without consequence. Elon needs to take over it and institute his legendary free speech absolutism. Oh wait.

If he understands rocketry engineering, that doesn't mean he automatically understands any other kind of engineering, like big software architecture. But he seems to thinks so. There are no rocket engines at Twitter, yet he kept criticizing its software architecture on flimsy grounds and has been proven wrong a few times. Once by his own staff, which he then fired. This is not okay in several ways, but is exactly what a billionaire insulated by yes-men and personal feelings of entitlement would do. He is not your cool space science friend.

Especially true as he's self taught. So, his experience is field specific, but that is often true of most professionals, as most specialise.

Innovation often depends on challenging orthodox assumptions. His whole approach is to work through multiple iterations/mistakes to optimise by trial and error. It‘ll be interesting to see what changes long-term. I’m sure he’ll improve the software architecture and it’s cost effectiveness. I just don’t know if he’ll alienate all Twitter‘s users/customers in the process.

I am also going to point out that you can rehearse to do what he is doing in those videos without fully understanding what you're talking about. I know, because I have done it when I had to give a presentation or demonstration of somebody else's work which I only understood to a point. In fact there's a couple of moments where he is hesitating enough that it makes me suspect that that's exactly what is happening right here.

Not necessarily saying that he doesn't understand how the rockets work mind you. But his knowledge is probably not as deep as he is trying to show, and ultimately I have to go back to what was said previously about him being unreliable in his presentation of information. The man is mercurial, frankly just a liar, and honestly at this point I find very little point in listening to anything he has to say

Probably the bestcourse of action. If he wants to ruin an already terrible platform (its function as a substitute for the failed British state notwithstanding), that's fairly harmless and I'd much rather he be occupied with picking the new design for the blue checkmark icon than his other side projects like implanting microchips in people's brains.

If you need money just stop paying rent. It's a "cost-cutting measure".

Twitter has stopped paying rent on all of its global offices “for weeks” as a cost-cutting measure.

Twitter, which doesn’t have a media department, didn’t respond to a request for comment.

Maybe that's Elon's end game for Twitter, which he saddled with monumental debt. You just screw over your creditors and settle to pay much less, while protecting the company with bankruptcy.

$136k is nothing for Twitter or Musk. Both have been losing money lately, but that amount is still trivial for an operation of that scale. He wants to get out of the lease before the term or it's some epic maymay when Elon pretends he is an anti landlord Bakuninist just to own the libs or something convoluted like that.
