Johnson is like a political cockroach. He will quickly replace them as the party slowly implodes.
They will have to literally drag him out if he is to go.

No, it's happening in realtime. The DRAMA of getting thrown out of the window in multiple stages!
The succession wars! The personalities!
I regret that politics is reduced to this and blame the media.

They tried

the government Whips Office has calculated that Mr Johnson would win the support of just 65 Tory MPs in a new confidence vote, from a total of almost 360.

Sir Graham Brady, the 1922 Committee chairman, on Wednesday told Mr Johnson a second vote on his leadership could happen as early as next week, with a new executive voted in on Monday and free to change the leadership rules on Tuesday.

Bookmaker Paddy Power has set the odds of Boris Johnson being replaced as Leader of the Conservatives in 2022 at a measly 1/50... This means that for every £50 bet, you’d only win £1 if the PM does leave his post before the end of the year.

Momma didn't raise no quitter.
He also didn't divorce any of his two ex-wives, they divorced him. Foreshadowing.

Let me know what odds you get on BoJo remaining for the rest of 2022.

EDIT: Too late to place any bets now, BoJo resigns as Party Leader, long live BoJo the Caretaker Prime Minister:

Apparently, our future in the UK is golden (6.05 in).

He folded too early instead of glorious death in mutual choking homicide with "Snake" Gove (again).
But I don't fear for Labour, as his heir is probably an evil and incompetent woman. I know this doesn't narrow down the field much.

Well BoJo won't have left any money in the kitty for Labour, so they'll have to adopt policies that will offend the hard left's high spending plans. That'll be an interesting test for Keir Starmer - pragmatism vs policy.

I'm more interested in what would Liz Truss do, if she's chosen. And Boris is not going away yet, so he still has some time for stupid scandals like cheating on his wife and breaking any kind of law he wants.
Also, Anime Abe was killed by some nut. No rest for the conspiracy theorists!

As he's only a caretaker now, he'll probably reappear on Have I Got News For You and admit that Putin funded his Brexit Campaign, confessing it was all just a joke.

Give me a quick rundown. Why did Johnson's cabinet jump ship like that?
In the UK, a Ministerial Code provides written guidance on how they are expected to conduct themselves. While it is not law, long established custom expects it to be adhered to. By convention, a minister found to have misled parliament is expected to resign or be sacked. People can't trust someone to acts without integrity. Boris tells people what they want to hear and stumbles from one short-term crisis to the next without time to focus on long-term issues. He was pressured to resign because he was generating too much negative press that was undermining his colleagues chances of re-election as the governing party. If he had walked when they told him to in private, there wouldn't have been any resignations and it would all have been swept under the carpet.

He will remain as a caretaker, until replaced, and government policy will continue to support Ukraine with or without him.

i'm sure starmer will be so very upset about not being able to fulfil the promises he's already announced he wouldn't fulfil.

it's starmer, there won't be anything interesting about it. his stated path is more austerity for everything except cops.

Whatever he says, he will not be in a position to dictate the contents of labour's next election manifesto. We'll have to wait and see what millstones his party hang round his neck.

Give me a quick rundown. Why did Johnson's cabinet jump ship like that?

Because the conservative party has been held together with blu-tac and matchsticks since 2010 (or arguably since Thatcher). Every government since then has been a shaky alliance between opposing different factions and cliques within the party, and the cabinet is constantly being reshuffled. On top of that, during the brexit power struggle of 2016-2019, Boris and Gove and a handful of other opportunists backstabbed each other and burned bridges to get to the top, but when Theresa May resigned, Boris was forced to make a government with people who in all likelihood hated his guts. The singular thing keeping him in power was the mandate from the 2019 election which was a surprise even to the Tories.

He's the anti-Boris, a boring lawyer with integrity and competence. Give me that kind of PM any time over "interesting" people.

That's exactly the problem. SS-Obergruppenführer Herr Stormer has no project beside superficially negating Boris. This might please rich liberals for whom style and rhetoric is everything, but unlike America the UK has such a tiny number of Labour-voting liberals that they aren't worth appealing to.
Meanwhile the country is basically rotting at the seams. The NHS is now worse than Obamacare, the police are in total disarray, and ambulances take 3 hours to go 2 miles. (2 people I know personally almost died because of this). Nobody currently is willing to address the economic catastrophe we're headed for. I'm probably moving to Beijing in a few months because an entry-level job there pays more than anything I've had here.
