Taleworlds needs to hold themselves accountable and admit that many key decisions regarding multiplayer have backfired.

I can't be the only person who thinks that the devs giving us classes with a predetermined purpose will always lead to much poorer game play. I can sort of understand it when commanding large ai units, but for player characters? Especially with the whole noble/hero hierarchy which exists in sp.

Why on earth would we rather not want to take the equipment and the engine and think up of roles ourselves using communication and tactics and all of those excellent buzzwords?

Also the character skill sheet is well done. In sp foot archers have athletics and you can field many more of them. Cav archers use the riding skill. So it's like bow skill plus riding or athletics for mounted and foot archers.

Multiplayer characters don't have have athletics skills assigned to them. I would suppose its set to 100 by default. Instead they decided to use something called "Movement_speed" just to confuse us more. Singleplayer on the other hand has athletics

That would be very odd. Riding a horse and being able to shoot a bow while riding a horse are two distinctive different things.

yeah but what if you had someone who was maxed out in riding, maxed out in bow, but couldn't shoot a bow while riding cause mounted archery skill is 0? you'd nerdrage

Early access has been a dumpster fire huh? lmao. It really does feel like someone was overpaid. With my money. Our money. <3 which i can't put in chat cause lazy input sanitation. They did much better with sp I feel bad complaining about sp things now.

Not really, riding implies not only riding but doing other things while on horseback. And since archers shouldn't have high riding nor horsemen high bow skills, the result would still be the same: no horse archers classes are bad at that task.

I mean how the stats are coded doesn't really matter - only their final result. And to be fair TW didn't make the forum tools; if you want someone to blame the forum for go to https://xenforo.com

Fian have pitiful riding skill (15) but obviously quite good bow skill. Would be interesting to see which is responsible. I mean to be fair I think all of this is a bit unnecessary right now - let's get blocking, feinting, chambering sorted first then we can argue about this stuff.

Though it is genuinely nice to be talking about the game again instead of each other! This is all I wanted

It makes more sense to keep the in different skills for the sake of balance.

Just a lot of design mistakes they could have prevented early on

I'm pretty sure bow skills also affects horse archers, meaning they need both bow and riding skills. But at this point i don't know what's going on. A while ago when the private masterserver was still a thing i recall putting riding skill to 0 in the files, to my surprise i was still able to ride the horse for some reason.

I think there is something else going behind the xml files but i have not looked into it yet.

You know all of it might be bearable if we could have good movement speed and the janky camera sorted lol. Being able to chamber consistently would be really cool. I don't know why it happens so rarely. I get slashed or stabbed through blocks actually it doesn't make sense sometimes.

I think riding skill affects things like riding speed, turn rate, and acceleration. Sumpter horse requires 0 skill so maybe they just turned down the level requirements for riding the horses. It would be nice to know. Also would be nice to know why so much effort was put into butchering the game into a frankenstein mp.

I presume there is just simply no skill restrictions on items at the moment. So no matter your skill you can use anything - though worse. Presumably horse archery is just the net difference between riding and archery. So if you have low riding but high archery then your reticle will increase accordingly if you are moving while on horseback - perhaps dependent on speed.

Agreed this is absolutely why we need a beta test server - but... it does sound like we might be getting that soon so who knows.

Also I meant in the in game chat you can’t type in “<“. Not the forum chat. It’s just like, was it that much more work to escape out the brackets instead of blocking the whole thing out? Makes it impossible to send a “<3” through chat in game. Is this a known issue? What a metaphor for the state of mp actually...

There is a lot of confusing going on honestly for multiplayer, if it wasn't for the private masterserver shutting down, everything would have been a lot easier to understand

Okay well we all agree it has been a mess; and it could of been better etc etc. The least I can hope is we see how v1.5 goes; maybe I'll eat my words but I think we are due a big MP shakeup and; this is what they seem to be promising.

I'm quietly confident this might be a turning point; I don't believe we are as far off a good stable MP foundation then most of us are willing to admit. After that we can argue about classes etc.

Damn this thread moved fast...
The current DoF strategy is to give Beeflip a horse right at the start of the round as as a Fiann.

He becomes a unit with

  • 40+ Armor
  • The Highest damage bow in the game, with almost 0 loss to horse archery accuracy.
  • A two handed sword that has plenty of reach to melee from horseback.
  • A battanian Horse with the second fastest speed in the game.
The gear swap happens right at the start of the round, before the opposing team has any feasible chance of doing anything about it. The downside to this swap? Basically having a wildling with 5 less movement speed than a regular wildling.

If this is balance that the devs see as perfectly fine quite frankly myself and a lot of people want nothing to do with the game.
Longbow Fiann? Thats definitly a bug that hopefully will be fixed soon. Its impossibly overpowered and hard to deal with. I learned about it then decided to play a few skirmish games, thinking to myself boy I hope this isnt well known. First match of the month and there you were.

All peasant 3 - 0 shut out would be pretty dominant. Could you imagine?
Been there done that. Its more viable than you think as you can just swarm people and throw javelins.

I've noticed that having 1-2 peasants in the team and having them pickup weapons dropped from either enemies or allies works very well. Peasant class perks are just irrelevant and will be dropped as soon as a better weapon is found.

But TW decided to reduce the time it takes for stuff to despawn which makes me wonder if this is the reason why.
I assume its a performance issue and not a tactical thing.

Vlandian light cavalry = 200 riding
Vlandian heavy cavalry = 200 riding
Khuzait light cavalry = 200 riding
Khuzait heavy cavalry = 200 riding
Waits its 200? I thought it was 100

Nope it's, 200. Though while checking to be sure i was surprised to not have noticed that somehow the devs managed to put 2 exact same lists in the same xml file. Meaning there are two types the same troops, though the stats differ between the two. In the second list of the two, the stats have riding set to 200. Which i believe is the one that is being read since it goes over the first list (one with lower skills) and then goes over the second one (higher skills)

Take that back, there are two lists, one for heroes (players) and other one that is soldiers for bots. seems like stats a lot different

Are players the 200 riding or is that the bots? I saw the numbers being added twice and i just assumed the numbers were the same so I completely missed this

Seems to be only the bots yeah. Though the argument still stands, khuzait horse archer and vlandian heavy/light cav still have same riding. or just any cav units. if you look at the heroes section

Battania's Longbow Fiann are currently not as overpowered as they could be, taking into consideration that the moment of earliest potential release of the arrow is significantly unreliable. Please fix

This is....stupid....so humans get less riding skills but our sturgian warriors get 150 polearm? Not sure why we're the heroes it seems like the bot rebellion would win.
