I can't be the only person who thinks that the devs giving us classes with a predetermined purpose will always lead to much poorer game play. I can sort of understand it when commanding large ai units, but for player characters? Especially with the whole noble/hero hierarchy which exists in sp.
Why on earth would we rather not want to take the equipment and the engine and think up of roles ourselves using communication and tactics and all of those excellent buzzwords?
Also the character skill sheet is well done. In sp foot archers have athletics and you can field many more of them. Cav archers use the riding skill. So it's like bow skill plus riding or athletics for mounted and foot archers.
