I only propose this right now because Steam is hosting a killer sale of Wargame: Airland Battle until September 9th. You can also buy the predecessor European Escalation for $2 with a bundle.

For those who don't remember or didn't participate, in 2010 taleworlds members hosted a Men of War Tournament with an overarching campaign. Instead of a battle royale, players took control of divisions (i.e. had special rules on which units they could use) and fought against each other to defeat the others. Even though it was roughly 8 vs 8, most battles were 1v1, 2v2, or 3v3. Each victory/defeat would change the strategic map and make the next battlefield different.

So I was wondering if taleworlds would once again like to try this idea and come together to play some AirLand Battle?

I would say this game is highly underrated and is a very good RTS game. I would roughly describe it as RUSE + Tom Clancy's Endwar + World in Conflict. I recommend it and I would have even bought it sooner if I wasn't skeptical about the game. I would say it's an easy purchase if RTS interests you, esepcially at this price of 20 U.S.D. (may differ based on respective country's currencies).

Also I believe this campaign/tournament idea that TDM did with Men of War would work even easier with Airland Battle's deck system.

I was thinking of making it an escalating struggle, so if people joined it would be divisions being brought in and if people left it would be divisions being sent to other theaters.

Anyone have any proposals for locales? All the maps are based on Western Central Europe and Scandinavia so I was thinking Poland or maybe a fictional world.

I'd be in for an ALB tournament. Put me down for armored division, British if NATO, Soviet if Warsaw Pact.

I believe organizing through steam would be efficient with it's steam group event schedules. That, along with posting times and using PMs/threads of taleworlds should prove helpful for organizing matches.

So we have four/five players so I think I'll make an official thread now and put some more polished items on the table, which may even interest more people. Will link to new thread when created.

It's a lot less paper-rock-scissors I would say, though obviously certain units have advantages and disadvantages that you can play on.

There are tons of units, each historically correct and their armament, size, supplies, optics, etc. will greatly affect how the battle plays out.

I would say this is somewhat how RUSE was supposed to be, but the RUSE elements of decoys, etc. is only used in the SP, COOP, or VS campaign map.

By wargame do you mean European Escalation or are you just asking for a comparison between RUSE and Wargame: Airland Battle?

Also traditional tactics of other RTS games don't work so well. I would say Wargame is like the RTS version of ArmA. The idea of morale and quantity vs quality is done very well.

Sorry yeah forgot the "European Escalation" part when I said Wargame.
Is it just European Escalation with airplanes or did they also balance some things out?

It's officially a "sequel" but basically it's a remake of European Escalation with the biggest dynamic being more and differing units and air strikes/air intercepts.

I haven't personally played EE a lot but AB is definitely better overall from what I have read and heard.

They balanced a lot, artillery is balanced, the helicopter/plane/AA dynamic works really well, the only bugbear most people have so far is that a few minor nations don't have the units to be able to compete without being in a mixed deck. It's great, I'd recommend it over any other strategy game at the moment.
