We should be able to give the development a rating aswell
Solid 2/10
I dissagree i would say its higer than that maybe not higher than a 6/10 mainly due to the lack of consistant communcaition (Callum does a good job but he is one person and doesnt deserve some of the hate he gets looking at you multiplayer forum ) However the dev mexxico did say the reason more Devs dont communicate hear is due to not that great english and that he has tried persuading many of them to communciate with whta there working on.

I do feel as we when people say oh they have insert numbe rof employees how many of them are actaull programmers or artists and how many are say cleaning staff or receptionists

I do agree the 10 years for this isnt really explained and never will but i feel things will get better

Something like 90% of the reviews were given after less than an hour of playtime. People were hyped so they left stupid "IT'S HARVESTING SEASON" 10/10 reviews. This is a chronic issue with steam reviews, positive or negative, where people aren't reviewing the game, they're leaving an expression of something external to the game, whether its some stupid controversy or overall hype. The fact that there isn't some kind of gameplay timer for leaving game reviews is just nuts.
True. But if you look at recent reviews most of them are by people who put more than 100 hours into the game and rating for the last 30 days increased from 87% all time to 94% positive recent reviews.
So I guess the ultimate truth is that the game isn't as bad as some people make it sound. Or they simply don't like it, which is bad luck.

>pc version is unfinished
>proceed to make console port
>and now this
never trust EA project, EVER.

I really don't know if they're making a console port, and since apparently a lot of Steam players choose to play with gamepads maybe they're making these additions to cater to those guys, on the other hand, games like Kenshi -open worlds sandbox, write your own story, build an army, strategize - doesn't need gamepad support to be successful and cater to people, it needed actual content, a ****load of imagination, opportunities for the player, etc. Imagine if the guys at Kenshi stopped adding features or whatever just to start changing every UI to cater to gamepad users, it would be kinda stupid since there are more important things than letting the player play with a gamepad as if the combat wasn't good enough already in mouse + controllers. I know this isnt the right thread, but I think it adds since they instantly start working on other things that are so unimportant right now when there is so much to be done, but here we are again with the lack of direction. Huh maaaybe now we should start making improvements for gamepad players, maybe noow we should move to redesigning walls and sheep textures, maybe now we should make all the art in the town menus all over again. I have no idea on how many times they have resetted things, but it feels like its going to take another decade for the game to finish if they just start doing everything again from scratch, it really hurts my head, just take a look at the previous videos and see how much the menus and the UI has changed, they just can't settle with one thing and start working in other important issues

go to your bannerlord module folder, open Native, and open the submodule.xml
you'll see bunch of console configuration and xmls there

I did not give it a review until I had 127.4hrs in the game, and yes I gave a good review and I stand by it... I have 400hrs in now and its still enjoyable to me, and I would not go back to warband over this game.....

Ui developer/designer =/= Software developer/coder

The dynamic you expect this to go on is one of directly hiring a company to create a project in which you determine MVP (MVP means minimum viable product, which is a concept of the minimal things I need to start using) and additional features, and you determine when it is done. In this model you are also responsible for paying for every hour spent on your project and likely they will only get paid by milestones and complete delivery. In case I was not clear enough, you will provide both funding and profit and that gives you the position to change whatever you want, however you want.

The dynamic we are actually in is one in which they funded the project themselves, they determined the MVP and what additional features they want to include and said "Hey, we have this unfinished product that you can start using if you pay us, we plan to include this and that, and if you have suggestions you can provide them to us but we will then decide if we want to implement them or not, no guarantees".

To think that they would rework entire features because you suggested it is completely unrealistic.

I've worked on both sides, firstly in consulting, which is the first case that happens almost entirely between companies, so for example company A hires company B to create an application to meet their business needs.

Now I work more closely to the second instance, in which we have a product, we have planned features, but in extraordinary cases, we will develop something based on a request because the company that uses our product will offer to pay for the development (that request must obviously fit in the scope of the product). This is not relatable to TaleWorlds because the product we offer is a SaaS (software as a service) so we get recurring revenue, which means constant funding and a never ending project while they have a fixed spending and therefore their cycle must come to an end after said funding is spent, which may mean scrapping planned features.

To make myself clear, this is not an excuse for poor communications, nor for disorganized development by what it seems to be a lack of leadership/effective management. I don't really know why they haven't improved on this because it benefits them more than us by a large margin. This post is for expectation management and hopefully for people to be more careful when engaging in EA/pre orders. I bought Bannerlord out of passion and not by rational thinking.

As for modders, they have none of the benefits but also none of the responsibilities, they can walk away anytime. Well, they can ask for donations, which is part of the benefits and still none of the responsibilities.

Game devs can do this too. If TW just stops developing the game and releases it right now, there is nothing you can do. Of course I don´t believe they will do it, but they could, like any other game dev.

There are a lot of "dropped" games on Steam. Most of them from small companies of course. You can try to get a refund of course, but that´s all.

They can't, they deal in reputation. If they want longevity they can't just drop a project and move on, they would always be remembered by that project, just like we were hyped for Bannerlord because of Warband.

While this is true, players are kind of stupid (me included). I mean EA still sells a lot of their games. EA doesn´t drop games that often but come up with stuff like "Those aren´t loot boxes, those are surprise mechanics!" Gamers will rage for 2-4 weeks and forget about it after that.

And when M&B3 will be announced in 2022 and finally be released in EA in 2030, not a lot fo players will remember Bannerlord EA

I mean there are a lot of people here who say stuff like "But Warband wasn´t better than Bannerlord is right now", they don´t care about the 8 years in between both games.

And I agree, companies will keep making the same business decisions if the outcome is always the same. We act like addicts, we know we get stressed, we know it is a real life money sink and so forth, but we still do it because sometimes it is entertaining.

Well, unless we knew exactly how those 8 years were spent, we would be speculating purely for our entertainment or to troll people with conspiracy theories, both for or against TW.

I don't really care either if they spent 7 years rubbing one of or if they were working past their hours, I already got plenty of hours of entertainment, which does not mean I think the game is good or couldn't be better (yeah, you can put down the pitchforks), those are not related. I will continue getting more hours of entertainment as they finish whatever they plan to finish and in the end, if I am not happy with the end product, I will pick up modding and try to add what I feel is missing, or download stuff made by people that feel the same, which is what I usually do with games that allow it.

Nah my dude at least that **** isn't released yet ****ing DayZ is the king of bad development
+1
I tried it many times and couldn't get myself to play it and some years later(1 week ago to be precise) i watched a video essay about it and it was really bad..
Played many early acces games myself and some of them got really far with EA, and i'll leave some examples.
Subautica: got released in EA in 2014 and full version appeared in 2018, still has some bugs and no updates are in sight for them. Wouldn't consider it that bad seeing how the devs are working on another EA title which is a DLC but turned out pretty good by now.

The forest: didn't play this one when it got out but i know it's been in EA since 2014 and got released in 2018 as well(i think). Now, the game still feels as an EA game not because it's lacking content but of all of its goddamn bugs(another one "abandoned" because of a new game)

Scrap mechanic: i'll be honest, i didn't get so much attracted by this one and only played an old pirated version of it but still didn't quite like it. The game is currently still in EA after being released in 2016-ish(not sure on this one as well) but it got a somewhat big update a while ago.
Sry if i kinda went away from the subject in place but I wanted to present a little comparison to other EA titles.

The Forest doesn't have many bugs, and if you take into account that The Forest was made by just 3 people, its extremely well made.
In my eyes, the forest was one of the best games in the past few years, it had an extremely nice setting, unique enemies (If you play it alone at night and you hear the cannibals screaming when they find your camp it runs shivers down your spine). And is all in all an absolute good argument why EA can be good, they worked so well together with the community.
They even gave you a timer in the Main Menu when the next patch is gonna drop, they always told you what they are working on, and took in as m uch feedback as humanly possible

Played it a few hours, not my jam either, but it has so much going for it that i can clearly see why it is so well taken by gamers all around.
And i can see why especially Scrap Mechanic takes a lot of time to develop, its extremely physics based.
