Tales of Valor (from behind the castle wall) - the Art of Siege Defence

Apologies if it has been done before, but: have you excelled in the art of siege defence? At what castle/town and with what troops.

The question is prompted by this: ol' Ragnar decided to siege Kelredan and I happened by. I rushed off and got 20 Ivory Archers and 20 Lady Knights and popped in to help out. Due to my own continuing incompetence, I put the archers in the first slot, and the LKs in the second. So to my horror, all my archers were standing in the huge breach in Kelredan's walls, and would meet whoever came up the ramp.

Wait for it......only 3 Nords made it to the actual breach. I was astounded. 186 of them had been cut down by the Ivories before they even made it to the walls. It's a siege tower defence of course. I haven't seen such killing power in the game so far. And remember the Nords have shields.

It has been my great pleasure to defend Almerra and Rindyar with skeleton crews. Any other stories out there?

i use my companion as the shock troops....
i gave always to them a pole-something (Yari/knight lance) with sideways action and hammers, +bow and arrow...
in ladder defence they rule while defending with polearms versus ladder climbers, and in spare time they shoot their ivory very well...
As for additional troops i prefer the rhodock elite arbalestier+arbalestiers as they have polearms that help a lot in sieges and thick armours. In this formula 60 guys can defend against a 300+ dark army (they only came 200 at once anyway)
I prefer the ivory while sieging others... the increased attack speed helps a lot+ i keep them in the rear so the others can have all the arrow damage...

Similarly there are epic failures in siege defence..

A short while before my previous post, Ragnar besieged Tilbaut Castle with his 2200 men. Full of piss and vinegar, I rolled up with my 156 men and reckoned I could repulse his scrawny Nords.

Eek. My battlesize of 100 meant that I stood in the breach with three other losers facing an army of a hundred. There were seven of us in all, but some guys were defending the far walls.

I had to withdraw to the courtyard. There is a kind of little alley down there between two buildings, and it was in there that I made my stand. Next time you're in Tilbaut, check it out. It was the most ignominious siege defence ever. It failed miserably.

Ragnar left me with most of my stuff though, I'll give him that.
