Take precautions or die!

I think there are too many people running around the map carelessly and as a result becoming victims of their own foolishness.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and this is mine

I think when people want to travel around inside the world of PW and they get in a spot of trouble they are far to quick to blame the perpetrators rather than consider taking some basic safety precautions.

You can:

1) Carry weapons
2) Join a faction to rely on for protection
3) Hire bodyguards
4) Move in a large group

However how many people do this just for security? For example an average miner on the way back to town will.

a) Be alone
b) Be carrying nothing other than 3 ore and a pick.

Now how is this not the perfect mark? Why does he not hire a guard? Why does he not carry a real weapon to defend himself with? Why does he not travel with some friends so they can look out for one another? Why does he tell the big man in plate armour to "**** off" thereby arousing his anger and gaining a quick death? Why do factions not run regular guard patrols to cover their miners and woodcutters?

If you get robbed, or refuse to pay a tax and get killed while failing to take even basic security precautions then who really is to blame? Sure the criminal must take some of it he was of course the instigator. However if you fail to take such precautions, if you run off with no talking when told to stop and given multiple chances to comply, if you make rude comments to the guy threatening your life, then you are also at least partially responsible.

This is the middle ages, life was harsh, the law corrupt. Might made right on many occasions and the peasants were only safe with the protection of their lord. This was not a land of harmony but a land of strife and hardship. Stop acting like your taking a walk in the park and watch yourselves!

Take this into account... How many people whine because at that moment Rp isn't convenient for them? They could avoid death on a number of occasions if they really Rp'd like their life was possibly hanging by a thread at that time.

But you made some good points that make sense. How many Merchants had no Caravan Guards or a sword himself?

Indeed. See how it went is that I advertise "5k pay per 5 runs" (tricks most people in general, I always look for assassins to kill the smart ones warning others of my scam) and then I get a guard for 2000 flat rate and let him take the odd ore to keep him loyal.

So, I mine a bit and collect three.
CC1 collects 4 ore.
CC2 collects 4 ore.
CC3 collects 4 ore.
Guard collects all ore he can carry and keep one for himself.

We go to the 1750 selling port and lets see what it adds up to! Well, we do have 15/16/17 depending on Monsiuer Guard's amount, so lets stick with 15.

  1750
x 15
----------
  26,250 denars!

So do this 5 times to pay off your men and by then you probably broke the 130,000 gold counter.

Smart Outlaws will stick with a Serf and demand that he mine them Ore, and in return they can use the Exports by their spawn to sell ore safely. Really it doesn't even need to be forced half the time, it's a good deal and they usually comply.

Thats nothing compared to my strategy:

Run around looking for a wooden club

I wanted to be a Tavernkeeper, and felt that i needed a wooden club to keep the tavern under control while not ruining RP.

So i set out to find on, and on the way i found weapons, loot, shields etc.

I sold it all and ended up with 30k, simply by trying to become a Tavernkeeper with a wooden club

I never found a club though

I like your logic, Plazek. It will make the Roaming Raider Company poorer people, but I can't (officially) deny it.
