having a tactical pause option would be good so slower players and give orders and organize without getting killed or enemies getting closer to the player

This would be absolutely great, it'd be so helpful to be able to micromanage your troops while staying in the fight. Would have to let people disable it in difficulty settings or the "hardcore" and masochist players would be less inclined to have it added to the game as they always are when it comes to things that'll make the game easier.

Not really a bad I guess, would be nice. Especially for bigger battles when you are commanding up the troop limit.

I think being able to pause and see the battlefield from above and give orders before the battle starts would be excellent to have. (Realistic) and then being able to pause and view battlefield from above during a battle could be locked behind tactics perks. First level perk could be view it from above during battle (like map) then next could be 50% time passing when viewing map, then finally at high level one could pause completely and give orders in the middle of battle.

something like this.

I smell total war, and I like it.

You could bring back the tactical screen from Warband, and have the game slowdown/stop while in that screen. This would allow you to pull off some more interesting strategies in the game, much more detailed ones.

It doesn't even have to be a bird's eye view.
Just being able to issue orders while paused would help so much in dealing with this janky ordering system.

I get it. The devs want all the possible options available and I really appreciate that but... what should be a battle against enemy troops turns into a battle against the UI.

I'm not even asking for a system of "order macros" to issue entire sets of orders at one. Keep it simple. Orders while paused.

Or don't "pause". (because I know that this can actually be quite challenging)
Instead, slow all but the UI down to 1%. No practical difference...

I haven't really delved into the tactical aspect to be honest, as I usually just lead the cavalry forward, engage their cavalry to push them back, and then flank their infantry line to break them while my infantry charges head-on... it seems to be winning me a lot of battles with staggering odds (like 10 kills to 1 death).

However, I've generally found that issuing several orders while on the fly is difficult, and overly complicated (especially with the use of Function keys on the keyboard!). Having a tactical map view which pauses the game would greatly improve battle strategies, and it should remove the Function key part of the battling. It'd be nice to be able to draw movement/combat lines along the map too to push units into specific places without exposing themselves.

Yes, I would love that! Just as an option for players like me, of course. You wouldn't have to use it.

But typically, the battle is over before I finish fiddling with the F1 menu, trying to figure out how to give orders. This is much worse than in the previous games, where enemies started further away from my army and the tactical menu wasn't so confusing, anyway.

This is hard to learn while the action is continuing all around me, and even if I do figure it out, I'm never going to learn it well enough to remember it on a later play of the game. And it's not at all realistic, since if I could just yell out what I wanted my guys to do (or give them initial orders ahead of time), as I would in reality, that would be easy.

Please add a pause function for giving orders in combat to Mount & Blade 2. It's very hard to play the super fast chaotic battles as a paralyzed person. Love the game but I can't really play the battles. It's too hard for me.

like the one step ahead perk that are in the Tactics skill tree ?

A tip for now how ever for you guys that struggle with commands on the fly i can recommend to select all forces then push F6....From there you can tailor the tactics but now they are gonna handle em selves like AI does. Can also do this with all separate forces. like ex horse archers preferably if youre not carrying em around on your own and have good open terrain

While it would certainly help the player, it kind of robs from the realism and effectiveness of shock units. There’s a reason it’s called Bannerlord, you’re not a hivemind. Plus your units have will, they can break and run away. There should be SOMETHING to allow you some battle prep, don’t get me wrong. I hate not having time to setup for an attack I initiated because the enemy just bum rushed to their certain death... but putting VATS in this game would ruin the game design. You’d spend all your time in it, and none in the fighting, and that’s the soul of this game, a call back to an era when commanders had to personally lead their forces.

What we need is a more streamlined way to influence the AI behavior, instead of simple direct orders. I F6 all troops on tough battles because they just coordinate 1000x better with each other and perform tasks I can’t tell them to do.
Instead of shield wall/charge/advance we need to be able to give the command to protect flanks/form skirmishing line/flank, stuff the AI can already ostensibly do

I already spend too much time issuing orders to minimize losses instead of getting to fight. I’d rather setup a battle plan and then action it, I don’t want to be in a VATS moving each archer to a small hill behind a tree or whatever.

what we need is a deployment menu, with roles for the unit types, where you just establish subordination and roles. If your plan works during the chaos of fighting, cool, if not maybe you just push through or call off and regroup.

Totally backing this! Have not had time to explore the tactics, stress from battle is to high.
Luckely, "Follow me" and "Charge" is the same as WB...! Othervice I would have been blown of every time.

its not that stressfull when you get in to it  even if battles can be stressfull due to its seriousness in life and death as it should reflect

True.. you usually have atleast 20 seconds before the enemy cavalry is over you.

I was about to post the same suggestion: a tactical pause button, pretty please.

I'm a F6 player, basically. I've tried doing tactics with the menu, but I find this difficult, awkward and slow, and just absolutely not enjoyable. It is possible that I would get the hang of it eventually. But the (single player campaign) game offers little opportunity for that, unless you are willing to save-scum over and over again. By the time I'm working on my second command, the enemy is upon us and it's either pressing F6 or losing. If there was a pause button, I could spend my time setting things up. And maybe after a while I would be more familiar with the menu and get faster and better at the mechanics, until one day I will pause no more. But if it stays as it is, I will simply ignore the tactical side of things entirely, which is a shame.

I have a hard time understanding how anyone can be against a pause button (in single player). If you don't like it and don't want to use it, then ... well, don't? This would be feature, not somehow imposed. It takes away nothing from the realism unless you choose to use it. Heck, if you are concerned that you may be tempted to press a button because it exists, make it a game option to diisable the pause button and set that option to disabled by default. Then I will happily enable the pause button and play the way I like, and you go on playing the way you like without a pause button.

Until Taleworlds or some modder adds adjustable battle speed, i recommend using the ctrl+f9 cheat.
I opened a topic abaut the speed problem here:
