Users who are viewing this thread

Anyway, i got a virus so i system restored to a week ago, but i tuninstalled m&B...even tohugh iv had it for atleast 2 weeks now. i still had the e-mail with the reg code, so i did that, and it says DENIED. is there anything i can do to get another one or fix this one without paying another 12 bucks?

Sorry....but why the hell would you do a system restore to remove a virus? (I dont mean offense) it just seems like an incredibly pointless thing to do.

I would reccomend you got a decent Virus Program (beware of that tard called "Nortan" , Get Etrust Antivirus.

System restores quite frequently mess alot of programs up , mainly games too. I did one once and it screwed Hl2.

You don't need to buy a new cd key , if by any reason you activated your cd key a 2nd time on a different computer , you need to wait 30-60 days for another activation.

my mom did it. the system restore, because everytime the anti virus opend up it would crash, i was at school at the time and so could not stop her

Also some virus' cant be removed via anti-virus software, in which case the system restore would be the easiest and quickest way to fix prob, the other way is format and install linux  ( 18,000 total amount of virus' and only 200 are malicouse, compared to windows millions of viruses and 100' or thousands are malicous).

I would also do a manual activation because it will work on your machine unlimited times and thus if you format/restore you dont have to waste an activation. Please tell me if this is not the right thing to do by armagan and co.

to do the manual activation you have to click on manual activation and it will bring up a window with a hardware hash number and a website to goto(i know thats weird for an offline activation). You goto this website and enter in your serial key and hardware hash in the specified spaces...then you will get a manual activation key to use for later.

Huh? Viruses infect many files and are not necessarily affected by System Restore at all. Most anti-virus programs that cannot remove the virus will point you to a removal tool supported by the company that supports the anti-virus program. Why they can't simply incorporate the tool into their software along with definition updates, I don't know.

A bit off topic, but oh well, i need to vent about system restore. I had a bad virus once, and system restore had actually backed up infected files...over 10,000 times  I have never ever had system restore work when i needed it too (you know...when there IS a problem with the system and not everything is running perfectly). So i just dissable that darn thing...i figure it's just a marketing ploy to help sell windows, because i have never seen or heard of it ever working and fixing a problem.

System restore basically backs up the registry and registered dll files. I suppose its designed for driver updates etc.

But yes, it is about as effective as a chocolate fireguard, especially against viruses. They'll quite happily sit in memory and re-activate once the restore is finished.
