system crash

Hey guys, I just installed the latest version of M&B (never played a previous version) and it crashes my system (complete lockup) when I try to run it. On the first run I got a load screen and was able to use it, but after I clicked play game and on subsequent attempts to run it, it locks up before any resolution or screen change occurs.

I have a monster gaming system with SLI, so the requirements aren't a problem. I am running winXP pro sp 2 fully updated, my drivers are fully updated, and I am running Kaspersky Anti-Virus in the background...

Any suggestions?

CPU: 4000+ AMD 64
RAM: 2GB
HDD: 2x74gb WD Raptor
Video: 2 x 6800 GT 256mb
Mobo: Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe

I tried eliminating some tasks, especially KAV, and it started working, I re-ran the disabled applications in sequence to try to identify the problem, but alas everything is running now and it still works... I have no clue what is different now.

I figured out that if I have ventrilo running and try to run Mount & Blade my system crashes.

It seems that the game crashes my system when it tries to load while another application is actively using sound... I have a sound blaster audigy 2 zs with updated drivers.
