Syla Uzas: The Kingmaker of Pendor

I started a game recently and joined D'Shar to help them since they got hammered from their wars vs the Fierds/Empire.

During peace time Kadan hired Syla Uzas and i pondered what would happen in the next war. First there was a war vs the Fierds and the D'Shar recaptured all their lost fiefs and also captured an extra castle. Then in the war vs the Empire they recaptured all their lost fiefs and also some new ones (Rela Keep & Ethos).

I am the Marshal for some time now and basically acting passively during wars to prevent D'Shar from growing further. I have Oregar castle and the next one in my list is Almerra Castle which is owned by Sarleon but we are at peace with them at the moment.

Kadan and Syla Uzas move around together with ~ 800 troops combined and they can scare off an average marshal force easily.

I want to make my own Kingdom but need to get rid of the Syla Uzas first, if they stay around for long and get lucky in a big fight with lots of rescued prisoners they will be a pain in the ass to deal with later on.

So yea the Kingdom that gets to hire Syla Uzas is in the position to snowball the game

The longer he stays around and the larger he becomes, the less powerful he is.

Keep in mind that his pure hardcore starting army dwindles away and with more and more troops showing up in his roster, less of a certain type will spawn.

And Immortals with their huge 2h swords are very, very, very susceptile to massed archery on a siegeladder.

Quantity has a quality all it's own, especially when battles are being auto calculated. Just ask the Noldor.

Having a horrible tactical disadvantage can be difficult to overcome as well, especially when the Marshall refuses to engage. Mediocre troops can be surprisingly competent when they outnumber their opponents 5:1

I enjoy the back and forth wild cards like Syla Urzas bring to the table. Sylva Urzas is particularly "fun" due to the massive amount of OHKO Javelins being thrown around. AI Factions can be surprisingly ruthless when it has the advantage as well...

In case some ppl don't know, but it's quite possible to get rid of him by attacking him, when you're friendly with the faction. The king who hired him won't join, and if you retreat from combat, Syla doesn't pursue, nor do you get negative relations simply for attacking.

So chip away at his elite troops, fight several rounds....lose the battles but win the war.

Syla isn't much stronger than most of other unique spawns. Just lure him to some jatu/heretic/snake/noldor army or vice versa, and they will smash him easily, or at least deal a lot of damage.

the only army i am truly afraid of are the demon ones... the snake leader is also a capable fellow... but the demons, gosh...thats like fighting immortal beings... the only thing they cant do is fly... if they could my Kingdom would just hide in their castle and never come out again... Fun fact: snake and heretics usually amass a pretty big army, usually 1,5k-4k... that being said there are alot of prisoners because of the all out war in my campaign

If you're marshal you can easily whittle down your faction's army by taking it to fight something massive, like a Noldor lord or something. You can also do it without being marshal, if you have friends or Persuasion skill. That's what I did just before starting my own kingdom - I reduced the whole Sarleon army to almost nothing by first attacking the Snake Cult stronghold and then a Mystmountain army.
