I've always liked a good swordfighting/martial arts movie, know any you'd like to reccommend?

Here's a few of my favorites:

Azumi
The Blade (Tsui Hark, not Wesley)
Lone Wolf and Cub (AKA Baby Cart) series
Zatoichi (Shintaro Katsu !! not the 2003 Takeshi Kitano)series

ps I did search, didnt find, know its there, and am eagerly anticipating your objections(so there !!)

If you liked gore, I cannot point any but...

Sanjuro by Akira Kurosawa. it has the shortest, but the most intense sword fighting ever made (it ends in a second).

Seven Samurai by Akira Kurosawa. It has very realistic fighting scenes.

Duel at Ichijoji Temple by I don't know. It's the second film of Miyamoto Musashi series. It was made 50years ago so it's a bit dull but has a very good fighting scene.

From Kurosawa, Yojimbo is pretty awesome as well. For martial arts, on the other hand, Bruce Lee is the way to go. The Big Boss and Fist of Fury are quite nice but Way of the Dragon and Enter the Dragon are truly spectacular. For more recent films I'd recommend the Kill Bills, I liked them a lot myself.

Looks like Zatoichi, Baby Cart series, and Kurosawa's stuff is mostly covered here. Though I'd add Ran by Kurosawa to that list.
Azumi wasn't bad, but way too much posing by the main character which got a bit ridiculous. Part 2 just sucked though.

When the Last Sword is Drawn I very highly recommend. Good story, good swordfights, overall excellent.

If you don't mind a bit of anime, I also highly recommend the Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X) OVA series, Trust and Betrayal. They are quite bloody in places, and the animated swordfights are very well done. Note that this is not a hentai (porn) or manga (goofy cartoony) animation for those who don't know the difference. Rurouni Kenshin does have a manga TV show, but it is definitely a bit goofy and isn't what I'm referring to.

I've heard good things about the Twilight Samurai, but I haven't had a chance to see it yet. If I think of more I'll add them.

WRONG!

Twilight Samurai is very nice movie. It doesn't have much fighting but it's definately worth watching. There is also quite new movie called "After the Rain" which is based on a script made by Akira Kurosawa. It wasn't bad either.

Wrong?

Bruce Lee is awesome! I'm not into martial arts and swordplay and the like ... yet even I find Bruce Lee to be awe inspiring!!

Enter The Dragon ...

His movies are awful. He is a bad actor, the scripts aren't anything special in his movies and the coreographies of the fight scenes are absolutely horrible.

Check out Ong Bak if you want to see a nice martial arts movie. It doesn't have good plot either and the figh are unrealistic, but they are much better than the bull**** you see in Hong Kong movies.

Kung Fu Hustle is a good movie, but keep in mind that it is a comedy as well and has some terribly unrealistic content in there (not calling it a bad thing, I loved the movie).

Also, another movie by the same fella (Stephen Chow) is Shaolin Soccer...this is another very good movie. It revolves around Kung Fu, Soccer, and a Romance with a bit of odd singing. Good stuff, less realistic, but worth it.

God, what was that movie...

It was out recently and it was english, revolved around a dog collar...

Can't for the life of me remember what it was called but it was bloody fantastic.

Would that be Unleashed (Danny the Dog)?

As for Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, I'm glad no one mentioned it (unless you count yourself or this) because I personally thought that movie was pretty boring and ridiculously overrated.

The only movie I can think of with cool fights is Equilibrium (though there is only 1-2 sword fights :???:).

Equilibrium have some cool gunfights though...the one in the very end is really nice....gun-wrestling sort of...

No one has mentioned Ong Bak..
Its the best fighting film ive ever seen and he does all stunts himself
Its blows all bruce lee away and make crouching tiger hidden dragon look like a tea party. http://www.ongbak.com.au

i checked out "Out Of Reach" (with steven seagal) yesterday.
i liked the film. there is only one swordplay scene (2-3 mins i guess) though, yet i found it very captivating.

Juno, mangs isn;t goofy cartoosn! that's japanese comics, like the D.N. Angel series!

And, me? i recommend, if you like bloody gory sword stuff. Just go pick up a katana in GTA SA.
