Regular
I've heard people mention having these people in their party but I've never found them available for hire.  What gives?

Sword Sisters are regular units, upgraded from Peasant Women. The rest are tournament-only people.

So you can only get Sword Sisters by rescuing peasant woman prisoners and upgrading them?  Are they worth it??

As I said in the other thread, they're the best light cavalry in the game. They wear plate armor and plate greaves (though every now and then one will wear a coat of plates instead) and about half of them carry crossbows. They have two weaknesses, however: about 1/3rd of them don't wear any helmets at all and they all ride coursers. They butcher spread-out units and they are absolutely excellent units in ground combat, but if you send them into a mob, they get their horses chopped out from under them and their unarmored heads bashed in.

I've also had one beat King Yargolek in 1-on-1 combat despite carrying a saber.

They also aren't too easy to obtain; you have to recruit them from bandits / captured lords or you have to beat peasant parties into submission / raid towns with blunt weapons to get them. In my case, I raised an army of 50 without raiding any villages or attacking any peasants, but still, it's not easy to collect them.

Mercenary Cavalry, which are alright, but not worth it when you could be using Swadian Knights. Hired Blades are actually pretty good units as well, but they have no horses and are outmatched by Nord Huscarls. All mercenary units are absurdly overpriced.

As for Manhunters, they become Slaver Chiefs, which are the worst top-tier unit in the game and significantly more expensive than Swadian Knights. Don't bother recruiting them at all; you won't be able to keep them alive.

If you've been crawling the Native Expansion boards, Xerina is the name of an NPC in that mod (Xerina becomes an NPC and Ymira takes her place in the arena).

I suggest you go to this site http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Mount%26Blade, it probably answer most of your questions.
Yeah, but it won't tell you which ones are good or bad, which is mainly what I'm going with here.
Yes it will, it tells you what level they are, you can see what equipment they have (although the list is a little outdated, Sea Raiders for example no longer come in hauberks but byrnies instead), and it even gives you a short summary of their strengths and weaknesses. If you require more detailed information, you can just download the troop editor and see the exact stats and equipment each troop has.

Yeah, that's where I heard about being able to recruit Xerina.  I guess I just made assumptions about Kradus and Dranton after that.

I've got my 50, too, and try to recruit them every chance I get.
I love them because they add the feminine touch and are really nasty warriors.

Xerina, Kradus and Dranton used to stand around in the Zendar Tavern and tell you tricks for combat, like how couching worked and such. Marnid was also there, asking for a padded cloth before he'd join. Borcha was in the Rivalcheg prison, for horse theft.

Ah, those were the days.

And the classic padded cloth doesn't exist in the game anymore either, even though it's still buried in the files (as tourney_armor_yellow or something like that IIRC, oddly enough, even though it's not used in tournaments). Personally I liked that model a lot more than the formless white thing we have now.

If you want an army of Sword Sisters, you can use tweak that allows garrisoning units in villages - it allows you to steal farmers/women peasants too. You can pretend it's a part of plundering - steal food, resources and women
