Sword of War or Bastard Sword?

Um, the sword of war hands down, because it's much more powerful, has longer range and is only slightly slower

But if you did have the choice of using shiel, i'd go with the bastard sword, because it's much more flexible.

IMO, you're much better off with the SOW in almost any situation. If there are enemy archers, one quick press of the button and you switch to your shield anyway. The bastard sword is much weaker and slower when wielded by 1 hand, so you're usually better off with a scimitar or longsword if you want to go 1handed style. The bastard sword is alot more fun though, and cooler looking if you ask me. So the SOW gets points for efficiency, and the bastard sword for style.

Bah, get both, keep one in hand and the other in inventory, use bastard sword and shield when hunting missile troops and the SOW when you are hacking melee troops into tiny bits.

I'd go for SOW because of its greater range and good damage, I almost never use a shield since all my characters become master archers at some point I just shoot the enemy archers before they shoot me!!!

That's what i do.

I happen to use the bastard sword, just because it is much faster. When my damage gets to the point that i can kill in one swing, i switch to SOW, then switch back when my bastard sword damage gets that high. The speed of the bastard beats the range of the SOW for me

Ah, the joys of a balanced game with no uber-weapons making the player consider the pros and cons of several weapons to suit he's style

I ususally use the bastard sword, it gives me the flexibility of using a 2 handed weapon AND a 1 handed weapon in one. Opening up my other slots to carry a Jousting Lance, Shield, and Throwing Axes or spiked mace

Indeed... I find myself switching back and forth between shield and twohanded. Tough enemies means with shield, lesser enemies mean twohanded.

But I praely like the Bastard for its superb versatility. Great on horseback, great twohanded and great with a shield. What is there not to like?

A real man like maddox *linky linky* http://maddox.xmission.com/ could use both. Anyone who can't should be shot as a way to weed out poor breeding.

Bastard sword because I can use a shield when the need arises. It comes in handy on horseback, against ranged enemies and when I'm surrounded by large crowds of enemies and can't block all their attacks without a shield. The shield also works with throwing weapons, so I carry jarids.

Sword of War here, better range and power with very little sacrifice in terms of speed. If I want a one handed weapon I'll carry a Watered-Steel Scimitar, nice damage with excellent speed.

I use bastard sword, shield and two sets of throwing weapons (jarids and axes) as I specialize on throwing. Bastard sword is good because its versatile, I can charge archers on horseback with sword and shield, I can stand against many attackers on foot with sword and shield, and I can swich to two handed mode when mopping up or flanking enemies engaged with my men when I want to kill them quickly.

After much testing, I found this setup to be optimal for my playing style.

Bastard Sword, Heather Shield, Jarids and a Jousting Lance for when I'm on a capture mission or after slaves.

I tried a SOW but it just didn't have the versatility of the Bastard.

Haha... That almost the same as mine... Only I recently upgrade to throwing axes (better damage, and I swear it is easier to use).
