Squire
Well I have been playing Mount & Blade for about a year now and i currently have an awesome nord game going.  I have a fief that has 81 relation to me, a castle with over 100 Huscarls, and like 76 other mediocre nord troops.  I really want to be the Marshall and the only way that that will take place is by going to the claimant and joining his cause.  I don't want to lose my fiefs or troops, how can i keep the castle and such while still becoming a claimant marshall?

You cant, simple as that.

What you can do is hope you get elected as Marshall sometime.

The purpose of the game is to take over the world.
Don't waste your time with being Marshall or fighting for the Claimant.
Why follow when you should be leading?
Build up an army of 50 men and take over the world.

I dunno about what the 'point' of this game is / is not. Seems like taking over the entire place is boring.

Becoming a marshal is pretty easy, btw. Get enough renown and make sure that you have good standing with the other lords (not too hard if you ever joined in on a battle that wasnt going their way, they tend to really like you).

Otherwise, if you dont want to deal with any of the factions, but still want everybody on the map to hate you, go rebel. Thats always fun.

You can keep all of your possessions if you rebel after being refused a castle or town that you capture.  Once you do that you will be oath-free and can sign up with one of the claimants.

Taking over the whole place is not boring.  It's fun.
With every mans hand against you, you can attack in any direction.
With 50 men you can take over the world.  Try it.
