Swabian Infantry???

I guess you mean it is stupid for a foot soldier to have such stat. Perhaps Armagan means it, or just made a mistake. This game is still in beta, BTW.
If you are able to find it out, you must be using the unofficial editor, most probably. In case you hate this, give it a change.

yes, i was expressing my confusion about the stats of a unit which by description should be "foot-oriented"... low athletics, high cavalry skills... actually, similar inconsistencies can be observed about other regular troop types: but this one just seemed completely "off the wall"

Huh? You can ask your followers about their stats in game. Same as asking Marnid if he managed to level up, then realize that he doesn't get exp from hitting trees.

Unmounted Swadian melee classes are rubbish. I know this from unfortunate experience.

I suspect the absence of godlike athleticism (their chief downfall, before the Sergeants' polearm ineptitude) might be down to the previous tier's desire to ride, and the calculation that most Swadians who don't take the path of Skirmisher will end up on horseback.

what about the vaegir infantry - are they any good? I wanted to play a game with only infantry for a change but if they're no good I might not bother.

sorry about OT.

Compared to their Swadian equivalents, the Vaegir infantry classes (I can't remember what comes before Vaegir Guard!) are marginally faster, slightly-less well-armoured, but have much more useful weapons, i.e. two-handed weapons like bardiche and greataxes (battle axes, I think).

They're much better in an all-infantry army. Stay far away from them, if you're playing vanilla M&B and have melee cavalry, because they'll just get left behind. Again, if you've taken berserkers (thank you, Mag7!), you shouldn't bother. Also, if, for some reason, their Vaegir Marksmen friends decide to whip out their scimitars, though for the most part they wear mail hauberk, they still outpace the Guard with ease.

Maybe an army of Vaegir Guard and Swadian Infantry?
Hopefully the forthcoming update will improve on the infantries' ability to keep pace with the rest of the forces.
