Hi,

Having Surgeons in the army can have a +1/+2/+3 effect on my Surgery skill.
Having a Surgery book in my inventory will have a +1 effect on my Surgery skill.
But Surgery is a Party skill - and thus qualifies for that Party Skill Bonus.

My question is, what is the absolute highest attainable Surgery effect with minmaxing in mind?

I'm thinking:
14 is max effect attainable.

10 Surgeons in army for +3.
1 Book for +1.
6 natural skill points.

The above brings Surgery skill to 10, which confers +4 Party Skill Bonus.
So the net effect is 14.

Sorry for reviving an old topic, but I really want to know whether anyone was able to confirm this. I'm currently planning my new character's skill progression, and am playing him as a commander, so focusing on char and INT. I want to make sure I don't waste any skillpoints.

Do books and stat units interact in the way OP describes, or does your character need to have 10 in the skill by themselves to qualify for the +4 bonus?

Or do the books and stat units stack on top of the 14, for a potential 17 or 18?

The OP's assumption is correct. The max is 14, and stat units and books contribute to reaching that maximum, they don't help you go over it.
