On the World Map, without holding Alt, every party is only identified by the Coat of Arms of the Faction and a number.
In order to distinguish the Lords from the Caravans/Peasants/etc. I have two suggestions :
1 : ADDING TITLES
This has been said many times, but can't be said enough, add the title of Lords in front of their names, it's strange to encounter 'Raganvad' on the map (and in discussion), it should always show 'King Raganvad', 'King Caladog', 'Sultan Unqid' etc. (Like in Warband)
2 : ADDING SYMBOLS TO WORLD MAP
This is my suggestion : Add a simple crown symbol above the Coat of Arms, make it silver for Lords and Gold for Monarchs. That way, when you encounter a Lord party, you would be able to difference it at a glance from a Caravan by the little Grey Crown above the Coat of Arms.
This suggestion could be extended to caravans by putting a simple Scale symbol above the Coat of Arms.
This could also be applied to Towns, those owned directly by the Ruling Faction Dynasty (or the Capital!) could have a little golden crown above the Coat of Arms.
3 : DIVERSIFYING BANNER OPTIONS
This has alreaby been said, but it would still help, colourschemes for Factions instead of one background and one symbol colour.
