These are general suggestions that most avid gamers would know but I thought that this would be a good place to mention them for those of us who don't program on the side.
1. Make sure your graphics card drivers are up to date. What is a graphics card driver? I don't know. I didn't know my graphics card could go on roads or needed a driver for those road trips. Apparently, they do. The most up-to-date driver may solve your problem. Graphics cards generally fall into two categories, those with an ATI chip and those with an Nvidia chip. go to www.ati.com or www.nvidia.com to find your driver.
2. Get the latest DirectX version. This is a magical program that I have no idea what it does... it is like the magic faerie that makes all games work. This is made by microsoft I believe and can be found there.
Ok, so you've done all that and you still can't get M&B to run, try these things:
1. Open the configuration file by clicking on the "configure" option from the M&B splash screen. For each topic that is listed, set it to the LOWEST setting.
2. If you can get M&B running at this point but are still having problems (very low FPS, etc) go into the "options" screen (accessible by pressing esc, then clicking on "options") Under audio and video, turn off/disable everything, set battle size to the lowest number, etc etc... go as bare-bones as you can on every setting.
These steps should get the game up and running. You can now go back and up the settings a bit in the "options" and the "configure" screens. Up ONE THING AT A TIME. Run the game, if it runs fine, go back and change something else. Keep doing this until you crash. When you crash, you know what caused it and change it back!
This process will take some time, but in the end, you will get M&B up and running at a FPS that you can live with and you will enjoy as many of the graphical features as your computer (aka rig... learned that today) can handle.
If you are still having problems, go to www.dell.com and buy a new computer! hehe... just kidding, but you are now beyond my ability to help!
Good luck and I hope you can get this wonderful game up and running, it is well worth it!
Feel free to add to the thread if you have further suggestions.
