Mangudai
Recruit
After playing awhile I noticed the henchman have some bad habits that could be rectified with some changes to commands.
-have the default setting be "Follow Me" at start of a battle
minor point, but in some cases the mounted troops ride off halfway across the map even if I have told them to follow right after appearing. There is some lost time getting them back and stopped, so they can dismount which I want in most battles. In almost every battle I run to a defensible position and set that as the position to hold, with the wasted time getting my mounted guys rdy the enemy is upon me or close by then.
-add some kind of "Archer Line" or other formation in which the archers are in front
This especially needs to be done with Marnid and Borcha, or maybe I just notice thier actions more. In my main game I am lvl 38 with 352 bow/197 polearm, using warbow/glaive with lots of horse archery/riding. I'm trying to raise those two as decent archers as well, eventually on horse but not for awhile. When I find a good position I usually just let those two shoot the enemy and make most of the kills for xp, only jumping in and shooting if too many advance to our postion, or dismounting the enemy by shooting horses.
Marnid and Borcha have a habit of bunching together, getting in each others way. The one in the rear ends up constantly readjusting postion to avoid friendly fire and after awhile just stands there not shooting. I notice this and have to readjust everyone with a quick charge/wait 5 secs/hold new postion. This could be avoided if they have a rigid archer line that they try to maintain. This could be set as perpendicular to nearest enemy, and with enough space between to accomidate a couple sidestep to avoid fire. Perhaps the line would be equally spaced points 6-8 steps apart, and give each archer freedom to move within a 2 step radius from his set point.
-add the ability to divide your troops into groups, and give each one specific commands
This would add tons of possibilities for better control of a battle. Stuck with 4 refugees and only 1 hired blade? divide them and send the refugees in to thier death. Have an exposed position that horsemen keep riding in from? set some of your heavy infantry there to intercept so they dont interupt the archer line.
-add the ability to specify to a group which enemy to attack
If they all charge the single melee guy while getting shot to pieces by the 2 archers 10 steps further away, all you can do is either watch your troops get shot up or take the archers out yourself. With this command you could set one or 2 guys to keep the melee enemy busy and send the rest to take out the archers. Another scenario, you face several khergits and 3 horse archers are circling around picking you off, but all of your men attack the 2 lancers that charged in, because they are closest. With this command you could direct your archer line to attack the horse archers, and your heavy infantry to face the lancers.
Just a few suggestions that I think would improve the game a little, add some more depth.
Oh also- please give us more challenging opponents!
