I agree with everything OP said except the micro transactions, as you correctly pointed out the campaign map is basically an abstraction, hosting it on a single server with 1/10th a typical power of a warband server would do fine, all you would need to do is instance scenes like battles and towns. And my opinion means **** to anyone I'm aware, but Taleworlds should have been moving in this direction from the get go instead of making a weird matchmaking system they could have created an instanced scene system. It's kind of my biggest disappointment, matchmaking was done by chivalry which basically was a dollar store knock off of Warband, so they are trying to make a slightly better version of a ****tier version of their own game, rather then leaning into their own content and following the sandbox path that they trailblazed and adding a multiplayer aspect to it.

There will be a mod that adds this to the game, it's already being worked on by multiple teams, from what I've seen in the code Taleworlds even paved the way for modders to do it.

I guess I can't blame them for "playing it safe" because apparently the majority of the fanbase can't handle the concept of expanding the campaign into multiplayer without having a nervous breakdown, despite all the building blocks for it already existing 10 years ago.

Literally the only thing that needs to be added to the multiplayer formula to make a MP campaign like OP describes is server files to host the campaign map and sync date with battle servers that are already working fine, just to load equipment and troop types etc.
It might be a little janky to figure out instancing for the towns and stuff but PW already did it with multiple settlements the only thing that would need to be added would be NPC's which unless they are essential to campaign mechanics could be the last thing to go in tbh.

You wouldn't even need servers as beefy as PW's because most people don't even go into towns they just use the fantastic menu system.
Tavern's could use some love though, why can't we hire mercs from the menu?

I also wonder if people freaked out on Vornne like this, for explaining his idea for PW?
