Suggestion: Rhodok Phalanx/attached shielding/twohanded spears

Like the title says It would be really cool to have Rhodok Phalanx, but of course this is not of my own interest. I think Rhodoks should ditch the horse and replace it with a phalanx class soldier, A soldier with only 2 handed spears. About the shield part, their shields should be like the ones the Greek Spartans used in their phalanx.

Well ok fine they're Macedonian. Anyways if you pay attention to their shields, they are strapped to the arms while the spear is being held up. The spears are super long, which is why they're phalanx, I think this would be a great addition to clan matches and or Sunday Formation days, by long spears, I mean spears like 225+ lengths at least. Since the shield doesnt have to be held up to be hit (well at least when you're on a horse), the shield would provide a mediocre defense against archers. Of course these guys are still succeptable to arches.


Pros:

Deadly Spears (225 reach or something)
Shields hang over their shoulder
Dispatches Cavalry quite easily

Cons:

Spears are no use after the halfway point of the spear
Have mediocre armor, chainmail being best
Very short secondary weapons
Only very effective in groups of 3+
Easily Flanked

If the spear was that long, you shouldn't be allowed to block with it, and make the speed around 70 to 75.

That said, I don't think that would be a good addition. Maybe some better spears overall but not a new class, and not a spear that long. It would destroy cavalry players.

Wouldn't be a very affective class in Warband, you don't often get the numbers necessary to make a spear wall useful.

Though I do like the thought of spearmen being able to hold their shields up with a spear "braced" or so to speak. always felt like it was a little silly someone couldn't have their shield and spear up at the same time.

That is exactly what I mean, minus the top part. But c'mon, Rhodoks arn't supposed to have horse. Oh and that class should have javelins.

Actually, its only effective against cavalry if people were in groups of 3 or more, which is why more teamplay. Phalanx fail miserably when it comes to maneuverability (maybe weight should be added). Also, they're not exactly manually blocking, its just putting a shield in front of someone and just letting it hang there, so people could hit from the sides. Sorry for double post.

EDIT: About Cavalry, if the cavalry gets past the halfway point of the spear, its over for the phalanx (unless the cavalryman sucks nuts, E.x. Me)
