[Suggestion] Realistic Equipment System

I know, I know, many people seem to fear the "realism" word but I think this is something that would also significantly help gameplay in a number of aspects.

I can say it simply this way. You should only be able to carry whatever will physically appear on your person. Want two shields? Fine, you have one in your hand and one on your back. Want three? Sorry, your third shield doesn't have a physical place on your character model, you can't carry it. This would apply to everything. Each throwing axe would be hooked into your belt, every arrow would have to be accounted for in quivers, every javelin accounted for, and if you can't account for it you don't get to carry it.

There are several other things I would account for, however. You should be capable of carrying (but not utilizing) something in your left hand besides your shield. You could carry a handful of javelins in your left hand in addition to your shield, for in stance. And if you don't have a shield you'd be able to hold something like an extra weapon or another extra throwing axe.

This solves a number of annoying little patterns(in my opinion, I expect several people will be vehemently opposed to this) that have developed. You could only carry 2 crossbows at max, and one of those crossbows would be taking up your back shield slot. You could only carry 2 shields. You could only carry  2 - 2 handers (I don't actually know anyone who does this anyways.) Throwing axe sizes would have to get smaller as there is no way you could fit 5 throwing axes on your physical person. You'd only be able to have two bundles of javelins, one on your back and one in your shield hand. And all of these things would be physically modeled at all times. No longer would you appear to pull weapons out of your ass.

One problem with this I can think of is with longer polearms. Where does the pike go? Where do lances go? My suggestion is you could only carry these weapons as initial weapons, and if you wanted to switch to another weapon you'd have to hit G and drop them, but I know this might be pushing the realism too far for some people. At any rate I'm just trying to generate some discussion here... so... discuss.

Not sure how marketable it is, but I like this. I'm such a freak that I already throw down what I'm holding to draw secondary weapons. I can't stand seeing polearms or bows or two-handers on my back =p

You know what, I don't see a problem at all with making large weapons like pikes and lances having to be dropped when switching to secondaries. I'd also like to see baggage near spawns for battles and other longer tactics oriented game modes so that players can replenish broken shields, lost polearms, spent arrows, and killed horses. Only disadvantage I see is that it would encourage spawn camping. In fact, that kinda gives me an idea for a new game mode...

Yeah. We have the ability to pick up pretty much anything, so there's nothing stopping us from having forced weapon dropping.

I like this as weel, but one thing, I think you'd be able to carry at least 14 throwing axes.  Across you chest on a belt and all around your waist on a belt.  Simple as that.

Great idea Edward. And there is one more thing. All your equipment should have a real weight, and you should have a limit of carrying. And that should effect player speed greatly.

I like all of this, it just sounds very very right, realism is really the way to go with this game. I even like the thing about dropping the lance (or maybe shifting it to the left hand?) to use something else, and I'm a lancer most of the time mind you.

A good idea.

With average weight of 600g they would weigh about 9 kilos, plus a primary weapon, maybe a shield and some armor - it's unlikely that anybody would voluntarily encumber themselves like that irl.

Not to mention that you couldn't even walk comfortably with all that crap hanging from you. And assuming you could, you'd sound (and probably look) like a drunken Santa Claus jingling all the way across a battlefield on the north pole.

This is a good suggestion.

To anyone who might appose:
You wouldn't want this change because it will change the way you currently play the game. But guess what? You are a beta tester. You are not just playing a free game. Sometimes you just have to suck it up and try something. Your particular [unrealistic and stupid] play-style is not important when compared to the final release of Warband.

In addition, most people who have never heard of MnB would think that this feature is awesome when they first see it in action. I've actually had a number of friends make fun of the game because I pulled a huge lance out of my butt. I personally think it would increase marketability.

I like the suggestion too, the only problems i can imagine are:
-Limitations of the models, concerning weapon attachments and visibility.
-How to make the limitations clear when buying your stuff? Maybe there should be a 3D representation of your character when you buy stuff, like in M&B 1.011 solo shops, so you can see what you can wear directly?

Read my post. Same idea, but with easy way to implement.

I fully support this idea. I have been since the beginning of beta anyway. I hate seeing a guy backpedal and hurl 15 freaking axes at my face.
