[Suggestion]Raising lance when hit,

So this is a simple thing but it sort of annoys me. When you are playing as a lancer and you get hit with an arrow or bolt you suddenly RAISE your lance from the couched position. The couched position is the default position, it should be staying there when you are hit, you would not raise the big stick in you hand way up in the air because you got hit.

On a related note, someone in heavy armor being hit by an arrow should not flinch since it seems we don't have a "zero penetration" mechanic.

This happens when the shield is hit though, infantry only stumble when they are actually hit past a shield. It is indeed annoying since it makes it very difficult to couch archers if they see you. Your only chance is if the archer misses you entirely or hits your horse, otherwise if they hit you or your shield it will result in you missing your attack. Given how accurate bows are its not hard to put a shot into someone charging straight at you...

Maybe new in this patch? I have hit peoples shields and they kept on coming and shoved a lance through me. Didn't raise it at all.

I definitely think getting shot should knock your lance out of position. Maybe not in the air, but you're definitely going to flinch if an arrow gets past your armor.

The way they raise it now is just silly is all. I wouldn't mind it shifting your lance around in the couched position, but it should remain couched.

So how is a archer going to defend himself against a lancer then?

This is another "please buff my favourite Troop type" Thread.

First, archers are favorite class, cavalry my least favorite. Secondly, he either kills the horsemen before they lance him, or his infantry protect him.

Archers often have at least 3 shots before cav reach them, then they can dodge and/or put that sword to use. They can also use teamwork and stick around the guys with the long sticks. Archers are meant to be screwed when cav get to them. Also unless they are couching you can just block easy as pie.

PS: I play all classes fairly equally.

in a foot battle, when a sword hits an enemy archer, the archer flinches, why should arrows not phase you?  your suggesting making your character out of steel while hes on horseback but not on foot?

Didn't say that at all. His couched lance should move around, but the natural reaction is NOT going to be to lift up this big hulking mass of wood in your hand (dirty minds will laugh right now.) It should simply move around within the couched lance's aiming space.

And your reply is not constructive but simply "don't nerf my already powerful class". Wonder how archery will work in the new physics system, if we ever get to test that out.

its true that cavalry and spearing got nerfed HARD recently, probably a little too hard, but that is entirely seperate from the fact that when you get hit, your attack needs to get canceled.  this is the case for all weapons and attack styles equally, is it fair? absolutely.

The penalty is far more severe to cavalry, though. I believe that is the point EdwardWellcraft is making. Unless you are beyond 30 ft from your target, getting hit like that (even on the shield) means you have to abandon the attack and try again.

Its a real big issue if your couching as it takes a lot longer for the lance to lower to the couching position as appose to the thrusting position which encourages more thrusting at high speeds which shouldn't be happening.

Exactly. Couching needs a bit of a buff and thrusting needs a severe nerf.

thrusting already got that huge nerf, agreed with a couching buff though, make it a little more accurate

Frankly, I think it could use more of a nerf. This is coming from someone who plays all classes but my favorite is cavalry. Couched lance hits are just so hard to achieve, which makes them a lot more fun and a lot more satisfying. Thrusting is pretty damn easy and not as cool.
