[SUGGESTION] New multiplayer game mode - For King and Country

Sir Pwn-A-Lot

Knight at Arms
Or something like that.

I don't think that this is gonna be easy to make, but still I think that is could be really interesting. This is a 12 player mode, 6vs6. First, all twelve players join the game. 2 first of them become kings, 10 others choosing between Captain (3 per faction. Infantry Captain, Cavalry Captain and, of course, Ranged-weapons Captain) and King's escort (2 per faction) . All players have boosted skills, not like classes in standart multiplayer. King is a weaker of them all (except HP, he has the highest ironflesh skill) , Escort is the strongest.

This isn't a fast-paced mode, so theres 5 minutes of warm-up before fight. Players can make a poll to skip warm-up if they are ready for battle.

King is a VIP in this mode, he must survive no matter what. For this purpose every faction have a decent amount of money at start, and king himself can choose how much gold going to receive each of his men. Players can spend this money on their inventory, and, the main point of this mode, their armies.

This is a weak point of this idea. Many players playing on not-so-high-end-computers, so 200+ man combats is going to be a pain for them. So lets say there is 50 bots per faction.

Every Captain have 12 slots for his army (More like platoon, yeah. And maybe even King himself can have his small platoon) , and Escort - 5. Here is where your money goes. You can spend all of your money on high-tier units at start, but you're not gonna be able to reinforce your platoons at King's camp (Not sure how this going to work yet, not so sure about game code restrictions. Either using a flag at camp or through simple commands like "send reinforcement from camp") . Every Captain have his profession, so he can buy units of other professions (Like Cavalry Captain can buy inf and archers, you got the idea) but they're gonna cost much more than units of his own profession.

So this is it, 5 min warm-up, players spending their money and choose tactics for map and locations for their troops (Captains and Escort must obey King of course) , like "Sir_MeleeALot, you go near the river and make a line with your huscarls", "You Sir_BoltUpYourArse take that hill to the right and order your archers to fire when enemy troops start to breach the river". Escort  must protect their lord at all costs, and King must survive and give orders (Kings and Captains can use maps like in SP) . Only 1/4 of map is enabled for grouping troops at warm-up for each army, and all archers have "hold-fire" order until battle starts.

So that's it. A little bit strategy in the naked two-handed berserk action. Just like SP, but with real players and King/Commander-thing.

And I'm really sorry for my english, I rarely typing so much, so I'm sure there lots of errors and such. Hope you'll like the idea.

Great idea I suggested something kinda similar but you have a much more thought out version.  I really want to see an organized army mode like this where command of bots is important.  Native singleplayer isn't completely an action slashem-up so why should all the game modes be?

Sounds like a very good and interesting idea! I would certainly play it.

Only two problems I can see:

1: You already said it, 200+ men battles will make low end systems cry.

2: The way this is set up, it sounds like it would be one really long battle, which would make it hard for people to join mid game.
This might be fix by simply giving everyone one life, but it would still be quite a wait.

I had something like this going in my head a few times.  Something like it should be implemented.  VIP system, preferably with the formation command >.>

2) Well yeah, I think that with good planning one round can last up to 20-30 minutes, especially if Captains will use their ability to reinforce armies. But on the other hand, sieges in the Native SP sometimes were pretty long too. I thought that this mode will open it's full potential for friends-only or clan games, when players can be sure that their King/Captains know what they are meant to do.
The main thing here is in the internet connection and Human factor. You never know what can happen. And if new player will replace older Captain/King, he surely will be confused, especially if his predecessor has left in the middle of the combat.
But maybe then don't restrain Captains with just one life? I mean, in the real fight if Commander killed, someone else takes his position, right? Then let's say one of 4-8 spectrators will join the fight as a new commander (hes respawning at the camp, but his soldiers is still where they were before previous Captain died/left) , and dead one joining the queue to became a new commander. This also could be applied to leaving in the middle of the battle King or his Escort, but without respawning.
The weakest link here, though, is that some players can use their respawning ability for kamikaze charges for enemy King's life. But maybe a 20sec timeouts for KIA-only commanders can solve this.

Obviously, there would be multiple servers running this mode, so you would simply pick the one that has empty slots.

Great idea. Really really good. Reminds me of the Regicide mode in Age of Empires II, but more fun.

Suicide charges against the enemy king will happen, but as long as you protect him well that is all they will amount to.

I would personally settle for any implementation of a commander/orders system into the current multiplayer system.  If a "commander" troop simply had the same orders from Native, with perhaps some transparent flags that reflected those orders, then teamwork and organization would already be easier.

I think it is a great idea ! But im wondering about the money ! How will we equip the bots ? What kinda of bots will be there ? and so on so on

Maybe you could choose what kind of troops you wanted to have.  Maybe for balance a cav squad would be smaller than an infantry squad.
