[Suggestion] More weapon modes, perhaps difficult to code

Sergeant Knight at Arms
Hi there!

Here is some idea I first brought up in the cRPG forum, but there I was told this was not possible:

We have many meele weapons with more than one side you can use for fighting. As for most swords switching the side for fighting is pointless (  ) this feature would make sense with some other weapons, like:

(Piercing or blunt)
itm_hammer.jpg
B + P
itm_fighting_pick.jpg
P + B
itm_military_pick.jpg
P + B
itm_military_hammer.jpg
B + P

C + P

C + P
itm_Faradon_warhammer.jpg
B + P
itm_glaive.jpg
Swing: C + P

C + B
itm_german_poleaxe.jpg
C + P
itm_elegant_poleaxe.jpg
C + B
itm_sarranid_two_handed_axe_b.jpg
C + P

(Yeah, some of them are cRPG-only, but I kept the pics just to show some more examples)

Of course I don't want the weapons having the same damage value in both modes. A Glaive with 39p or a Poleaxe with 42b would be kind of overpowered.

The problem is: people told me you can't code this properly, as you can change the damage, but not the grip of a weapon. I can't believe this, as the tip of the Javelins is wandering if you toggle the mode, so you can make a hammer twist from the flat to the pointy side!

I put all my hope in Joseph: is this possible or not?

So that I understand this correctly, you want (for example) the hammer to be blunt, hit the change mode button (used primarily for thrown weapons) so that it switches to the pointy bit to do pierce damage, correct? Thinking on it and bringing my meager knowledge to bear I think it may be possible, but a decent amount of work. It would be easier to do it without changing the way the weapon was held easily enough, but then you'd have to remember what side you are using, code wise. Does changing modes do anything but change the used animations? And could you use it to change the model of the weapon? I don't know enough about this to give you an actual answer, just thinking out-type. I guess it depends on how the game utilizes the weapon resources.

Anyway, possible or not, it won't be happening anytime soon, as Joseph seems like his plate is rather full, and I *just* started looking at the code due to a more than average busy personal life over the last several months.

Well, that's not a problem, I just want it kept in mind and concerned when some "modding ressources" are available

And you got it right. In fact there never was such a thing like a "Fighting pick", it's always a hammer just being used with the pointy side. I think it would be awesome if you could just turn your axe around as soon as you spot a knight and stab him with the pointy back! That's what it was designed for!

No idea if that is doable or not - would have to look at the code in-depth and I just don't have the time right now. Hold that thought though, it's interesting stuff.
