I think it would be nice to have the option to talk to the minister and send someone to give tribute or gifts to another kingdom. This would have the chance of improving kingdom relations.

Maybe there should be the option to demand tribute also, so if another kingdom is badly beaten, you could go further by trying to threaten them into paying you tribute. This would obviously have a hit on kingdom relations.

This sounds like a fine addition. Perhaps the AI demanding tribute (a regular thing, i e every month) in return for peace.

Sounds like a good idea. Are player monarchs likely to find themselves in situations where you want to pacify a neighbor?

Of course, if you are running out of manpower but you have lots of money. Let's say you are at war with another kingdom, and you know that they are coming to kick your rear end with a huge army, and you know that you will lose. Pacifying the attacker would be a good option.

Also, if you are fighting a war on two fronts, you might wish to concentrate on one enemy only. Trying to make peace with the other party or making sure they don't attack you while you take care of your war might be something I'd try first.

Yeah.  But then you would have to have a kingdom treasury, and that would make things much more complicated.  I mean, I have played games that were very complicated, but for something like this, I'm not sure it would work.  Maybe a single fee, of say, a certain amount of resources, but as a king, do you regularly get taxes from your lords?

Well your funds are teh Kingdom coffers. If I'm correct, there is no separation of personal versus kingdom cash, right?

A separation of official treasuries (fiefs and kingdom) from the players personal funds would be great, and something I plan for my WB mod. The fiefs and kingdom treasuries are for running the fiefs and paying the garrisons and the player can contribute at will, or remove some funds(with consequences...) The down side is that rents and dues are less, and garrisons would be smaller at the current rates.

I think as the king YOU are the treasury, separating it seems a little too much to me. Getting taxes from lords i'm not sure of (not in the beta )

giving gifts could also allow you to get a friendly faction to declare war on your enemies maybe?

On that note, it might be a nice idea to be able to set up traps in the vicinity of your lands which might cause some casualties in approaching enemy armies. Also for when you've got lots of money but not much troops.

That'd be the sort of thing to start a thread for. In fact, why don't you do that, as there are many practical applications of extra-fief improvements. Like caltrops in NE, or these traps.
