[SUGGESTION] Make an option for Helm visibility

Players, upon starting Mount and Blade, are given the option of creating a character and customizing their appearance. I enjoy being able to recognize my enemies in multiplayer solely by their appearance, as it makes things a lot more engaging and personal when you're fighting someone who you know well, not just character #2.

As such, I never wear a helm. I want my friends to know who I am, and my enemies to recognize me so they run before me in droves. However, this can get quite frustrating when a player is wearing all top tier armor, aside for the helm, and the player gets randomly slashed across the face with a tier 0 weapon and dies instantly. I understand the need for a helm and full armor, however, I feel that the point of creating a customized character is lost when players are forced to wear helms.

In short, I suggest an option to present to players to "hide/unhide" helms so players are able to buy and wear helms, obtaining the defenses, yet being able to choose whether they wish to display the helm in-game or not.

I think it should be a client side option instead. If you don't want to see anyone's helmet, you can turn them off. I don't think you should be allowed to hide the fact that you are wearing head armor if someone doesn't want the option on, though.

Although I don't play Warband I have a strong need to post my opinion about this ... And must say that I strongly disagree with you, because such things just ruin the realism and M&B is supposed to be realistic medieval warfare simulation.

So... you want to fool people into thinking your head is unprotected when it isn't?

Not all those head slashes are random, you know.

+1

I would personally never use it, as it would cloud my judgement.

Yeah, I'm afraid this would cause more problems than it's really worth. You'll just have to keep that purdy face uncovered, Rhade.

FWIW, I rarely wear any armor at all anymore, helmet or otherwise, unless I've just got money to burn (though I always wear gloves, for cool points).

I'm not sure this works well. If someone is wearing a great helm then I wouldn't attack his face but with this suggestion I'd be tricked into thinking that that person has an unprotected face. It'd be unfair. Banners, fighting styles and such are good for recognising people.

I don't think this is necessary.  first off, we have clan banners already.  Secondly, its pretty easy to tell who the regulars are even with a helmet on.  Thirdly, wearing a great helm is really intimidating to your foes.  There is something about not being able to see the enemy's face that makes them seem like a machine and not a man.

what a joke, this isnt world of warcraft....get real

I thought this thread was about visibility through the visor of a helm when its worn in 1st person, now that'd be cool

Be respectful.

That would only be useful if it was forced server-side, otherwise no-one would use it.

For a "no-show" option on helmets, I don't like the idea personally. I like being able to recognize people by their faces, but that's a serious risk to be taking. I like it when people say "LOL he actually looks like Marnid!" but I like living through the rounds a bit more.

you can't recognize people by their faces. most just either use the default or the most handsome face(the one marnid has)...and to be honest most faces generally look the same.

you could, however recognize some people who purposely make their face ugly. in that case, i wish they would cover their face with a helmet.

There is absolutely no need for disrespectful comments like this

If this was a client side option that was not forced upon everyone, sure! Nothing strike fear into the hearts of enemies like the mug of my avatar "Sir Pug-face!"

Head armor doesn't even do that much really so I don't even wear it half the time. Would be a good option I think, don't know why everyone is getting so hostile over it.

This thread made me realize I should tamper a bit more with SirAndelot's beautiful visage to make it more unique.

I can recognize almost every nK member by their face, and several regular players who have been around through several patches. Rhade, Test, Seawied, Baron Wolfgang von Stadler, Reapy, Neih, Asheila, etc.

It's true, when you see that bald head and goatee you know to run the other way.

I thought this was about helmets limiting visibility.

Now that would be great. If you choose to wear a great helm, your field of vision should be greatly diminished. If you go with a simple skull cap, just a bit of the helm's rim could be visible on the top of the screen, or no reduction at all.

There are reasons in reality to go without a helm. In game, only the slight weight of the helmet is a drawback, but they are all magically see-through.
