[Suggestion]Longer spears

...or lances being available for infantry at the equipment selection. As it is now, horsemen can circle around a spearman and outrange him with a lance. The horse is also out of range, since the lancer can thrust perpendiculary to the horse's direction. If the spearman doesn't attack at some point, the horseman can bump him with the horse and get in a free hit.

I agree, however the "Pike" the rhodoks have is sufficiently long.  However with good skill and luck should never be on the side of a horseman, but directly in front and chances are he cant hit you.

Make it "longer no-shield spears", and you got my vote =D
Just make longer pike-like variants of default spears: slower ones, but twohanded and longer then usual. It's easy to do and sounds like a nice idea to me.

That would also be nice, but not having a shield makes the infantry quite vulnerable to archers.

How do you prevent a horseman from being on your side?

I'd rather want to see lance thrusting arc narrowed and polearm grips fixed. It's stupid how you can outrange anything but the pike by thrusting to the side. It's a no risk move.

Just move the grip of the current ones further down the shaft to extend reach and adjust the animation.

Right now that animation and the grip eats up a lot of range that the spear could have.

You dont, but if youre good you can try and if youre lucky to strafe the right way in time as i said. Its not exactly 100% reliable and if you'd ALWAYS win a horseman with a polearm it would be silly.

I agree in a big way. This would help both infantry vs cavalry and cavalry (trying to couch) vs cavalry (thrusting). Thrusting from horseback is way overpowered. It's almost as powerful as couching and has more range (if timed right, which isn't very hard) and a much wider angle. They should change thrusting to a distinct weapon mode from couching (hit X to switch) in which the character uses and overhand grip, closer to the center of the lance. Thrusting could be a faster, but shorter ranged and weaker attack than it is now. More for fending off troops that have surrounded you at slow speeds than an alternative to couching.

Are we talking about multiplayer here? Even with a shorter spear than the cavalryman's lance, you can sometimes stab them first. I certainly find the war spear, when wielded 2 handed, is a good match for any lance apart from the great lance, and even then the slow thrust of the Great Lance makes avoiding it a good possibility. Yes, thrusting from horseback is very useful, but getting the timing right is what decides who gets hit. I consider myself a pretty decent horseman and footsoldier, I like to fight as cavalry against infantry and vice versa. I have my successes but also get killed, as both cavalry and as spear foot. It is far from a forgone conclusion that a spearman will be beaten by a lancer, even with a considerably longer lance. Obviously a lancer can be ultra careful and keep his distance, but then it is easier for the spearman to block or evade. The speed with which the distance closes can count against both the cavalryman and the footman. I don't see many horsemen approaching spearmen freely, they only do it cautiously, when the spearman is distracted (or cav ends up dead).

Still, a slight (very slight) reduction in the arc of thrusting might be ok in my opinion.

Spears are good - grip is bad:
-2h grip have less range than 1h grip... WTF? It should have more reach, or at last same. Spear with total length of 2m should have 1h reach about 130 and 2h reach about 160, not vice versa like now. Eventually "x" key to change from "short reach, 4 attack directions" to "long reach, 2 attack directions"
-1h thrusting grip have same reach as couching (I might be wrong here, but changing grip for couching is removed?), more with animation... again, WTF? spear/lance should be held in (or near) balance point while thrusting and near end while couching (which obviously make ridiculous thrusting with great lance impossible)
