hi, been playing warband for about a week now, and I was just sort of disappointed to see that knives/daggers weren't included in the game. I just sort of think of a knife as the medieval sidearm, and if this was a shooter without pistols, people would be upset.

Throwing knives would be a nice addition, especially since most people have linen shirts for armor.
Daggers seem unnecessary though. Gameplay wise, you're only hope would be to get in close enough to use it(which anyone seeing you using a dagger is going to keep you at a swords length away) and spam the hell out of attack using it's super speed to keep you enemy on the defensive.

Most daggers and similar weapons are basic sidearms during the European medieval era.

Apparently.

If there were daggers, I would definitely use them. If nothing else, I would use them to humiliate noobs

though if there were a chance of being momentarily disarmed, a dagger could be a very valuable backup.

I would love to see daggers for archers, It could be free and wouldn't take a slot. Since it has almost no reach and power. You could take more arrow and still have a bit of close combat capacity.

Lol, just what we need, archers having more arrows :/

Daggers would be nice but I would still think it should require a slot, there is no need for an archer to have 90 arrows at any one point.

Yup, daggers would be nice. I think they must be used as archer/xbowman free melee weapon, give em normal swords only for money.

Nerf, nerf, nerf... knive is tool or 'killer tool'. nobody was going to war with only knife. maybe except early English peasant-archers, but they also take only 2 arrows, so they're bad example... But if you mind knives like 'seax' which is more like short sword than knife, I have nothing against
With current fighting system i don't see place for standard knives or daggers (except throwing ones). Maybe only for fun fighting, or newbie slaying. But with breakable weapons it's different story...

Knives and other short and small weapons like it are like the handguns issued to frontline military personnel. Nobody engaging in combat would pull that thing out if they have better weapons, rather it's a backup weapon for when the main weapon is of no use for whatever reason. Daggers and such are quite useful in situations where a person finds themselves grappling with another person and doesn't have the room to operate a long weapon.

This does not happen in M&B, though. Only spears are mediocre when someone is glueing to you. Swords and others still work fine.

I think daggers would be really close to useless in Warband due to their horrible range.

Not really. Knives were like today knives - useful only in grapples and to finish off someone. Short swords or axes were like today pistols - you can fight with them against better equipped enemy, and still have some chance to survive. And larger weapons: longsword = SMG; Spear = assault rifle; bows/x-bows = light/heavy sniper rifles; great sword/axe, gleavies = MG; mauls = grenade launcher. don't really now how to compare shields to today warfare, but probably to cover.
So as somebody mention: knives should be slot-free weapons - because they are as useful as fists - and fists don't take slot

I LOVE FISTS, but yeah daggers would be cool but pretty much useless unless a key that allows you to walk (or crouch) silently is added so that you can sneak behind someone and backstab him. Throwing daggers could be ok as a cheap throwing weapon though.

If the walls were made impenetrable by weapons, short weapons like these would prove useful.
This would certainly make reading your environments more important. I'd like to see this.

Agreed. It looks stupid when people take a swing at you in a narrow corridor, and their greatsword just goes through the wall and hits you.

Yea i agree whit the Suggestion. A Knives ore a dagger it would be like a belt
I don't think it would take up a slot its just hanging in your belt.
And i find lots off situations i would take up a knife "findig a crossbows man from behind"/archer

a knive would be silent to pull and enough to kill whit a backstabb.

Agree with the stealth and impenetrable wall suggestions!
