Suggestion - get rid of food

Food just annoys me. I hate having to stop what I'm doing and waste half a day or so going to a town to buy a new sack of grain for my troops. My suggestion would be to get rid of food altogether or to make food only be consumed by your character. Other soldiers take care of their own supplies - that is what they are paid for and automatically by all the food they need when they are in towns.

Moral bonus/decrease could be handled by an option to pay more or less to your troops. The more you pay the better food they can afford and the more morale and vice versa.

I don't think it adds anything to the game but it is quite irritating.

I think its kind of fun, an army marches on its stomach you know. I've never had any trouble keeping some food in my inventory even as a starting out poor boy. By the way, the men will get grumpy if they have to eat out of a sack of grain every day, they aren't goats.

I don't always get grain. The point is that many times you interrupt a quest or chasing a bunch of bandits that'll get you huge XP points because you run out of food. It's unrealistic that you on your pony are expected to carry all the food of the whole party. The soldiers aren't children and normally would carry their own rations.

If you really want to keep food I think there should be a box in the party screen. Eg you buy food like you buy troops and the max you can carry. A ration would last about a week. Food disappears every day or so and when you want more you get it from the tavern keeper in the same screen as you get new troops.

Also in the party/tavern keeper screen you should have options to increase morale. I heard people talking about a 'beer slot'. Instead of that say you have an option in the tavern to pay all your troops three rounds of beer (standard morale boost), a feast with a roasted pig (bigger increase), a feast and all the alcohol they can drink and dancing girls (if that's in character - biggest increase). You'd pay accordingly as a one off thing.

Already food supplies are pissing me off. I'd hate to have to handle different types of alcohol as well.

heh funny  1) One food thinghy lasts days. 2) Always keep 1 food on your inventory, when you start use buy new one next time you are in city.

Foods rock. And it doesnt matter if your troops are day whitout food. heh, and there so many cities its usually only few steps to get in city. and I dont usually even buy food, all that I get is from enemies I slay. I have never ran out of food complety.
I like it, its fun. one good thing in game

My problem is I don't invest in 'inventory management' so I often have to choose between getting an extra sack of grain or keeping a new sword/weapon I just found. I can't really afford to keep more than two food supplies.

Any way my main point is that I think the food system is sloppily done. It shouldn't take up your inventory space. Who agrees?

If my memore doens't fail me Armagan talked about "a beer slot" some time ago. So I think he won't remove the food slot. Maybe food could be an option tho.

It doesn't seem to have any real effect now - I've never stopped what I was doing to get food, so it doesn't have that dramatic effect that you describe about stopping your attack and wasting a half day buy food.

Starvation doesn't having a big morale effect at least not immediately (my troops do without for a day or two), though in the future versions, who knows?

If food never has an effect, then maybe it should go. Right now, I'd rather we keep it because of the additional "realism" it may provide in later versions.

I have ran out of space on my inventory only on some 'find me x number of this and this' quests, where I've had only a few slots for loot.

However, it isn't that bad to sell your loot after raids. Also, you don't need to gather every rusty knife you find.

Food takes a single slot from the inventory side, or at most, I've kept a few slots there of food.

Food should stay and it should affect morale. I feed my troops with dried meat only, because it suffices for more time (am I right?)... and it should get my men happier in the future release.

An alcohol slot is a good idea - when I loot some party of bandits I usualy leave ale and wine behind so I can take more valuable things instead. There should be an option to drink it just after battle.

I don't see any reason why food should go. Eventually you just get used to carrying around 3 or 4 pieces of meat to feed your big army. It does create interesting situations though. I was once chased by a group of dark hunters who were exactly the same speed as me. I was in the middle of nowhere when my food supply ran out and was forced to eat one of my horses.

Yeah but what happens at higher levels when you're leading a group of 50 troops? You'll not be carrying 3 or 4 but 5 or 6.

Fact is the system is just strange. Why should you carry the food for the whole party like they're a bunch of children. Food should be just for yourself and for extras but all the troops should be expected to have their own rations.

Another idea would be to say they have grain as default. If you buy dried meat then it goes as a 'supplement' to their normal diet and they get a morale boost.

It makes perfect sense to me. This isn't a social outing -- this is an army, and you're the commander and quartermaster rolled into one. If you find that you're struggling without any points in Inventory Management, put some points in Inventory Management.

Because you're their leader? These guys may not know how to manage their food and might run out.....I bet no one will give them any, so they'll either die or leave. Therefore, since you are the LEADER, you have to distribute the food evenly and efficiently.

If you aren't going to increase your inventory management skill, don't complain. What can anyone say? Stupid people have a hard time doing things, smarter ones don't.

Increase your intelligence and your skill, and you won't have a hard time. There is no reason to change the game because you can't figure that out.

I see the point you're trying to make, but the food system is *NOT* sloppily done, it is *NOT* worthless/pointless, and if you can't put 1 or 2 points in to inventory management, don't go complaining about not having enough food to feed your troops. Besides, why would a low level have 50 troops anyways? I fail to see the reasoning behind that. I personaly think that a big army is a waste of time, because I can take on 20+ dark knights by my self all at the same time, and come out the winner (dmg = normal, AI = good).

If you want a big army, you need to learn how to maintain it, so that it doesn't go to s*** on you. If you can't feed your army, you aren't worthy of keeping the army. Learn to feed the army, or learn to do without it. 1 or 2 points in Inv. Management will give you enough space to do ---

Collect horses for king (15 slots)
Deliver Ale for Merchant (7 slots)
Supply food for your army (5 slots)

that's 27 slots. You start out with... what? 18 slots? Anyways... 18 slots plus the 12 slots you get from 2 levels of inventory management...

30 slots.

27 < 30. You can do your quests, feed your army, and still have enough space for one of those "cool new weapons" you find. Just put 2 points in inventory management. And deliver those 15 chargers to the king, ASAP.

I think there should be MORE food slots!

That's right, you heard me!

You should have 2 or 3 food slots so you can give your men a balanced diet!

Oh, and I think maybe some vegetables should be added to the game as well! Your men need to eat their greens if they're gonna grow up big and strong!

I made a character with nothing but charisma. I mean really. He has 8 leadership and, I think, 68 charisma, resulting in an army of over 100 men. That army can go through a pile of food in less than a day.

Personally, I'd like a change. A thing that could work would be to increase the number of food slots you have in the inventory window. I'd like to load up to 5 piles of food all at once so I don't have to constantly swap in more smoked fish and/or get rid of merchandise so I can have room for more food in my inventory.

Exactly. You have to think ahead. With low level characters (below 25) food may not seem like a problem. But eventually you'll have guys like Leo and it will be. Already the food thing is annoyingly boring with a party of 20. I think I'd give up if I had 100 men.
