i actually really enjoyed it today/tonight too, i can see the ad hoc formation working, wasn't line formations, but the team work was definitely there! People where playing together, and joining up with regiments on the go. Im not sure what was happening from the french side of events, but i could see they where working very well together too, some very close battles
i noticed the main regiments workings as whole, was the highlanders, 33rd, & 95th for the british. Ill admit, we weren't working as a whole from the start, but each regiment trying to earn there own glory on the battlefield, but with all respect, at the same time, all 3 commanders for each regiment seeing the bigger picture and deploying as such to compliment there fellow regiments, some flanking left, some going right, cav holding off a charge untill seeing opportunity
I was personally playing long with the 33rd, i remember us taking a hilled postion with a mill, (near the dye works) althou outnumbered slightly and at a disadvantage, our dashing bayonet charge shattered the french troops stationed there within a minute and continued the well lead charge down to the parapits helping to win the round within about 3-4 min. It was a slaughter for the french
But the next round the french had learnt, the 33rd repeated the same tactic, we rushed the hill, with even more french infantry stationed there, which was looking to be a brutal and bloody fight, then out off no where a French Cav reg comes dashing in cutting us to bit, which was obviously very well coordinated by the french players, and was an incredibile shock to myself, as i looked on awe continuing my charge hoping to get a few on the way out
althou we got those Cav back at some stage, when the 33rd held off and owned a french cav charge on the left flank
but overall, was very enjoyble, like to see more stuff like this going on, not sure if it should be passworded, but set a date, and make it very clear who the commanders are before the start of the battle for each reg and overall commanders, so there no mix ups or arguments over leadership. Server admin was on point today/tonight, helped things run smootly. but Teamspeak is a must thou, the chat box can get spammed out sometimes with people discussing what they had for tea, what movie is the best etc, somthing that should be saved for the forums if you wanna make this a bit more serious/tactical
but would love to see this as a weekly event, and probably a great chance for regiment to get some proper training in, i know it was a bit unorthodox today/tonight when we played, as it meant to be "do what you want within reason" but its always good to see people working together, sorta brings back the old beta days which makes Warband fun to play,
Only trouble is, as it a public server until events are organised, you cant literally turn around and tell people as such "to do this" or get annoyed when people wanna do there own thing, best thing to do, is join someone who trying to organise tactics as such, when people see it working, or the fun element, people then naturally join in, which is what happened, 33rd went from being a 4man team after about 4 rounds to about 10-12 strong, with a single cav unit giving us support
Highlanders had a very strong unit as did the 95th, highlanders where very organised too, 95th, worked very loosely, plently of them, seemed to be workin as a team at some stages, but no clear commander, as they seemed to be responding to what the other regs where doing. Coldstream guards where working pretty well, thou they tried to form to late in the night i think, being many of the public as already join a reg, but i remember seeing a square formation being formed at a back of a fort by them on one of the maps, which was pretty epic, to deter then enemy infiltrating the fort from behind, i think supported by the highlanders
I see someone was leading the cav late in the night, i think one of the 22nd guys, which seemed very organised, but the reg i was support (33rd) thou we was always in the thick of it, i thick the cav had expended themselves to early in the stage of the battles, a good show of use by the cav, is what i mentioned by the french, which i tipped my hat too!
overall was a ruddy good time, would have liked to been at the waterloo event after playing tonight!
good job to everyone who played! team work by everyone, on both sides made the battles very fun, and intresting to watch once you were dead, instead of just thinking "what aload of bull"
