Spears are too slow and weak as a one-handed weapon, and under powered compared to an axe/sword as 2 hander. Considering they were the most common weapon on the battlefields of the early medieval period and were mostly used with a shield, i don't understand why they are so slow & weak in M&B.
They were used with a shield only in a formation. When skirmish breaks out vikings would sling their shield and use it 2H. Samurai were not so much into line battle and carried it 2H as their main weapon. Many later period European polearms are just a spear with a twist more than an axe on a long pole.alh_p 说:

About all this faction defining classes stuff: Try setting the minimum gold on the server to 10000. This way every class will have the best armor/weapons possible. You really see what classes in the factions beat others. (Take a look at that uber Swadian Knight armor!)
