[SUGGESTION] Double Shields

...need to go. There's no reason to buy a better shield when you can just get a free extra shield. When yours breaks, pull it out. Before it breaks, use it as extra protection for your back.

Restrict players to one shield.

Nah, extra shields are a perfectly viable loadout choice. They should have the price of shields increase quite a bit when you buy more than one, though.

I'd suggest restricting it to 2. There's no reason why someone wouldn't be able to carry one shield on their back. Also restricting xbows to 1 should be done. Not long ago I was murdered by a naked maniac who carried 3 xbows and one bag of bolts.

How about you can only carry a max of 2 shields, like you said, but you can only use one-handed weapons until one of the shields breaks.
This would be due to the fact that you only have 2 possible places you can carry your shield, your arm and your back.

I agree that multiple shields are a problem, but I also think that incentives and disincentives should be provided which make it worth taking other things than multiple shields. The reason that people didn't run into battle wearing three tower shields in real life was because it was insanely impractical. So too should it be made impractical in Mount&Blade, rather than just forbidding it by fiat.

grow up
Right back at ya, kiddo.

They should just make shields less of the deciding factor in melee, to defeat a skilled shield user you must destroy their shield first, which is pretty lame to be honest.

You give something up when you take three shields. If you've only got a spear, you can't fight back against infantry and archers. If you've only got a sword, you can't fight cav. And you need some throwing weapons to fight archers. So if you want three shields you pay for it by losing versatility.

Plus, you can just get a buddy to run around behind shieldy mcshielderson and backhack them.

It should be a little easier to hit around shields (even over and under which is currently impossible). Then people would be a little less worried about shield hit points and more worried about fighting actively.

2 shields.. 3 shields no shields all oke with me.
I think players should be allowd to play there style. takeing away all those things wil ljust realy limit the ways you can play..
i mean if this keeps up it be very limited to what you can wear and how to play.. k historical more accurate but at what cost, also Historical accurate aint realy gone work nwo is it.. who can name me even 1 great battle (fought in pre gun age) with 32 vs 32 or less size in armies :/
I mean if we could fight eachother in large numbers i could get the hole Historical accuratsie, but with this Historical Accuratsie shouldnt get in the way of Gameplay.

Maybe when relesed some pepole will make Mods to make games more historical accurate by basicly forceing pepole or disallowing pepole surten ways to play.. like mroe than 1 shield.. or naked... or kitein or well what ever

Just my 5cents

Oh ya as to little less easy t ohit arond.. i dont knwo i mean aint easy.. but i allready had a few lucky shoots at pepole and hit there head with a heavy 2 hander.. .i mean if pepole with enough skill learn how to do it skil lwise rather than lucky shoots.. than i dont think should become any easier.. i mean you dont want a rather new player to learn in playing game a few times to allready beable to do it caus than everyone will stop useing shields

eh, not really. (@ Fosite)

Recently we've been having a lot of weapons going through shields due to glitching and lagging. Is this what you were talking about?

I've been playing for some months now and I know how far you have to be to hit around a shield. I've actually tested it explicitly on two occasions. As of now, it is impossible (with exception of glitches and lag) to hit around a shield unless you are all the way past the side of the opponent's body.

as of now, the only two viable tactics against a shield are to batter it until it breaks or to run and run and run around person until you might get far enough to land a strike past the shield (and then attack direction doesn't matter). This makes shield fighting either a wood chopping contest or a game of ring around the rosies. Either way, it's not very fun. In manual block fighting, there are many techniques to win, but in shield fighting there are only 2 techniques. If shields could be hit around easier, it would force shield users to be more aggressive and then the double shielding and etc wouldn't matter as much.

(in addition, you can try to out time them, but most experienced shield fighters do not allow you to do this)

You forgot the funpart.
If someone chases me, and he is quicker, I drop the xbows one by one until I am faster xD

So yeh, please don't remove it :p

The main problem I have with multiple shields starts when someone's got three of them. When you're fighting someone, you ought to be able to have a general idea of what sort of equipment they're carrying. Since there's no place for a third shield, it doesn't show up. When you know someone's just going to turtle behind their shields for the duration, you should have some rough estimate of how long it's going to take to wear them down.

The secondary problem I've got with shields is that they're far too quick to put away and take back out. When you break someone's shield with a great axe, you oftentimes can't even get an extra swing in before they've got their next shield at the ready. Either people need to be stunned when their shield breaks, or shield transitions need to take more time.

Other than that, I'm perfectly happy with all the people who run around looking like noob sandwiches.

One more thing, since people keep bringing shield v. shield combat into the picture on these threads. The best fights I've had have been like this. If you think shield combat is nothing more than mindless repetition or some kind of dance, then either you've never fought someone who's good with a shield, or you're not good with one yourself. If you watch a battle between two really good manual blockers, these fights follow the same sort of pattern until one of them actually goes through the effort to outsmart their opponent. It's the same with shields.
