Suggestion: Commanding battles!

When you engage an enemy party, when the list "charge the enemy" "order your troops to attack without you" and so on, there should be a option "stay back and command the troops".

Basically you join as a spectator, but you have the ability to command your troops. This would add a lot to the strategy aspect of the game, and would be a great add on.

I also hope for more formations and commands so it wouldnt be wasted.

What do you guys think?

That's a brilliant idea, methinks!

I really hope an official battle continuation mode gets implemented in future patches.

This'd be great. I probably won't really use it too much because I prefer being in the fight, but if I'm wounded or something I could still use this to be "part" of the battle. I'd like to just have the option to use it even though I probably won't.

I'm quite certain they didn't do this on purpose. It would be really strange if an invisible ghost flying around the battlefield was giving commands to troops. If you don't want to be involved in the main fight then simply stay in the back and give commands like a leader would have done, it's exactly the same thing as you suggest except your not an invisible flying entity giving your troops commands with telepathy.

Is this really any worse than being able to order troops across the battlefield to dismount, or being able to hold F1 and your troops magically know where to go?

Fail. It'll have to be in Mount and Blade 2 at the very least (not counting mods).

You SHOUT the orders; you don't hear them because the computer can't duplicate your voice etc.

Yup, however... some pre-charge arrangement would be great isntead of always telling you entire army to immediately hold-position as you see where you want to place them.

Going by your logic, a commander will be able to do the same without being in the battlefield too.

A number of options for you in regard to this, all in the links in my sig, but expanded here for your viewing pleasure:
  • Edit .txt file so your troops begin holding or following
  • Edit module system so your troops begin holding or following
  • Code for the module system to add a pre-battle order stage, as well as encounter menu options for hold and follow, rather than charge (BETA, and part 1 of 2 of my prebattle phase project)
