OK I became a BETA tester a couple of days ago and whats ruining it for me is people who are way above my skill level and kill me nearly instantly 'and there are alot of them'.

So my suggestion is a server for players who are still at a lower skill level.

Perhaps a ranking system, EACH Kill you get moves your rank up each death moves it down etc etc.

Then when you try to join the server you have to be below a certain rank

Just a thought, but i think it will improve the game.

olo is against ranking systems becuase it could be a form of discrimination at some point. though olo would very much like the newbs to get a newb server, preferably a DM server since you get instant respawn in there.

actualy, olo has an idea for the special noobie server:

when a player gets more than 10 kills AND has a k/d ratio of 3:1 or higher, they get banned for thirty minutes.  this will balance it would, if a naughty expert goes in there and does his thing, hell get rmoved by the system itself.

If you're on the U.S. server look up Ares007 or one of the other of Calradian Academy of Arms guys and ask if you can spar with them.

That being said, avoid battle if it's making you frustrated, try deathmatch or team deathmatch, you'll still get killed pretty often, but without the wait to respwan you'll get a lot more practise in and get a lot less frustrated. If you're lucky there'll be some folks manual block dueling on one of the deathmatch servers, there's no better way to improve your game than a bit of sparring, teaches you all the skills you need to know.

Besides, a 'ranking' thing gets rid of the satisfaction of improving, as theoretically you'll always be just as good as everyone else you fight.

And ban the Noobs who gets lucky in beating other noobs slightly more noobier then them.

well, then they might be ready for the big leagues. They go and play a normal competitive server. If they really did get lucky, then after a while, they'll realize it and by then, their ban will have lifted so that they may again join the noob server.

And as Moss mentioned, I am willing to spar/drill to help out. If a noob server like olo suggested is implemented, I will probably join from time to time just to help out and teach/train noobs if they want it.

I will also mention that the "Fighting without a shield" tutorial is a great way to practice melee skills like manual block. Set the damage down to minimal and then adjust the ai difficulty and game speed according to what you can do. Then as you become more proficient, gradually increase the gameplay speed and ai difficulty. Eventually you'll be sparring with good ai on the fastest setting and then you'll be able to tangle with better players online.

Isnt EU Server 1 the newbie server ?

Also this is something I have been concerned about for a while, theres a very steep learning curve to this game when newbies meet veterans. Its going to put a lot of players off if they get the game then get immediately raped every time they go online. I can guarantee as well that having newbie servers wont help the majority of players, they will miss it or skip over it.

Personally I think it comes down to the speed at which the game plays, its too fast in my opinion. The problem is a lot of the 'pro' players wont have it any other way and they have a majority voice here at the moment.

You could also go into the duel server and ask for help on manual block training if you like (either you only attack (trying to learn feinting and breaking through an enemies behaviour) or you try to concentrate on blocking a slow (1 handed bastard sword w shield) or limited (2 attack directions pike) weapon).
Bots might also be an alternative.
At what speed is the EU beginner server right now?

I've seen a good number of the 'better' players on the newbie server too, which seems a bit cheeky.

Maybe because it's only populated server with decent ping...? ;P

I'm a long term noob, it takes me a while to grab on to the concept of this game, I don't always look at stats etc

In fact if I tell you the truth I'm horrible at this game. Anyone here who's seen me play knows that I'm not lying. My score sometimes will be 0 12 my k/d ratio is horrible even if I manage to get a couple of kills here and there I still die a lot.

But you know what, I still come to play with this crowd, 3 months after downloading the beta I still suck, but I'm slightly better than I was thanks to these folks.

Btw, I suck at cavalry, like really suck and the name of this game is mount and blade, what does that tell you?

It tells me that you should dive in to infantry combat.  It's far more complex and in-depth.  That's where all the fun is for me!  PM me if you want to spar sometime; I may be able to provide you with some pointers.

Yup, and I set it up for just this reason.

Combat speed is adjustable by the admin. EU 1 is currently slow combat, I could of course dial it down another notch if people find it too fast.

That you should become an archer and fob off a poor kill/death ratio as people finishing off the guys you hit

Instead of complaining about dying and playing against people of your skill level, why not try to learn and get better by playing with better people?  Learn to stick with friendlies, learn the good tactics, and you will get much better much faster.  Copying good people is a little-used tactic that can really help you do well when you first get a game.

It doesnt really work, people will just create new profiles.
Since there is no reward for being very good... (you can just start over)
