Now, this would be much more useful in single player, but could have uses in Multiplayer as well.
In games such as Civilization, I found it incredibly useful to have an ingame encyclopedia of units, civilizations, technologies, etc. I'm thinking that the same kind of thing could be used here. Tips about each faction's normal strategies, what each unit's function and items are, detailed description of each skill, and other things could be put in an M&B encyclopedia. That would reduce the need to look up things in the manual, online, or post a question on the forums. It wouldn't have to be forced on the player, it'd just be something there that they can refer to if they want.
Now for multiplayer uses, I'm thinking that a popup window that comes up when hovering over a faction or unit could be useful. The popup could have a brief summery of that faction or unit's playstyle, such as:
Kingdom of Rhodoks: Defensive Faction
Uses pikemen and crossbowmen to defend a key position, with supporting cavalry.
Khergit Khanate: Hit and Run Faction
Uses cavalry to strike and retreat with lances and bows.
Kingdom of Nords: Offensive Infantry Faction
Uses infantry to storm the enemy with axes and wide shields, with archers and light scouting cavalry support.
Kingdom of Swadia: All-round Faction
High quality heavy cavalry, supported by varied infantrymen and crossbowmen. Generally favours heavy armour and shields.
Kingdom of Vaegirs: All-round Faction
High quality archers, supported by reasonable quality heavy cavalry and spearmen. Generally favours lighter armour and two handed weapons.
Descriptions like that could let the player know how to use their soldier effectively with a team. For veterans who already know their own playstyle, they could turn off the help boxes in the options.
Tell me what you think!
