[Suggestion] An alternative to preset game-type servers.

Would you agree to an implementation of this suggestion?

I figured out why everyone always plays Battle! It's very simple! It's because everyone always plays Battle! See?  :grin:

No? *Sigh* Fine, I'll explain. Most people play battle because almost everyone else is on the battle servers. Why would anyone try to play/test any of the other game types if no one else is there to play/test them with you? Trying to get people to hop back and forth between servers is quite a headache, to say the least.

Now, I'm pretty sure this wasn't suggested before, and I'm not sure if it's completely possible at the moment, but... Here's my suggested solution:

Do away with completely, or add an alternative server option to having the game-type set in stone for each server. Make the game-type randomized with each new game, just like the map and factions. The ability to poll in new game-types probably goes without saying.

Edit: It seems a lot of people would prefer just the ability to poll in new game-types, with no randomization, the poll in this topic goes for that as well.
 
No its because battle is the best game mode. Its pure 'mono e mono' killing. In siege you die half the time. Conquest is weird. DM you spawn in a cloud of enemies or right next to an enemy. So battle is the best mode thats why everyone plays it.

I would support something similar to what you say by random game type, provided the other modes are made better.
 
I fully support this suggestion. I love Siege, and don't mind CTF and Conquest so I do wish they were played more. And it is hard to truly nail down what needs to change in the game-types without playing them.

Edit: Instead of forcing the gametype to be random, simply put in a poll for gametype. It would be easier to pass a poll for siege then to convince everyone to move to the siege server.

Precisely why everyone plays on the battle server and not the CTF server, for instance.

However, I suspect people would prefer to play a game of CTF over Battle if they had just played four games of Battle just beforehand, and CTF was randomly selected. I do not doubt that many people would try to poll in Battle after anything but it was selected randomly, thus why randomization should be a server option.

Have you ever tried CTF with a decent amount of players? I know I haven't had the chance. :razz:

Great idea.  It would be much easier that trying to get people to switch servers.  A gametype poll would be an ideal solution.  The randomization wouldn't be bad either.
 
I would welcome a gametype poll, but I don't see the point in randomization. If people get bored of battle, they will be able to resolve it with a poll.

I agree with the suggestion, but usually there are enough players in other servers too. So I agree but not for the same reason. Just for some more variety.

Actually, I prefer dm, tdm and siege precisely because of the utter boredom that follows being killed in the first couple of minutes of battle mode. There is absolutely nothing to do, sometimes for up to five minutes at a time.

Anyway, I think the solution is making gametype votable. Surely the ability to vote for siege once in a while would end people's fixation on battle mode and allow for some more variety.
 
I play battle, Seige or TDM because they are the only gamemodes servers (with players) ever have up.  Conquest is really really fun, but there are NEVER servers with players that have it.

EDIT:  ive never even seen a server running CTF, ive been itching to try it for ages.
 
I agree with having a poll, if it's possible.

This will also make it easy to host just one server, but have easy access to all game types. (On Aussie servers, for example, we have never had a FnD game due to server shortage).
